Yes they were naive then, but since then they have proved at a local and national level they have a level headed approach and are likely to have the largest representation of any party at local level, if not this year with the next two. This is because they get on with the job. If you look at the way the Greens have conducted themselves here in Winchester any semblence of a different kind of politics from the Greens has been swept away.

The Scottish and Welsh parliaments both have variants of proportional representation. Its a common matter that is debated in this country. Maybe this time Labour will go that way.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @pluralistic@mamot.fr the reverse here they picked the one that made them look most like they would win by a long way all the others show them abotu 10% behind the LDs. In reality they are no2 here, but the LDs cast it as LD vs Con which is what it is in the wider district but not the ward.

@ChrisMayLA6 @2legged or alternatively, UK politics have once again ended up focused on the minute detail of the largely irrelevant and ignoring things that the vast majority of the population actually care about. The huge irony of this is that it will be forgotten in a week or two when Kemi and the other party leaders have found a new hill to die on opportunity to insist Starmer resigns. The man is a technocrat, and a very poor communicator, but I just don't see the incompetence.

@mbt3d @Feral_3D I saw another post pointing out that Meta, Google and Microsoft are all similar level sponsors. There didn't appear to be a coherent response to why this was so much worse.

My point was that I see a lot of rhetoric on here, and from the Greens claiming to offer a different more honest type of politics. The reality is that when they are trying to gain a seat locally they have defaulted to exactly the behaviour you are talking about. The sad thing here is that locally the LDs and Greens were working together, because they were aligned on policy. That's gone now here because the trust is gone.

@miblo@mas.to @sinabhfuil@mastodon.ie @pluralistic@mamot.fr in a sense that isn't what is playing out in Winchester where the LDs are encumbant with the Tories having faded to nothing and the Greens in the city mostly in second place and Reform third. Labour are nowhere. I have no issues with more Green councillors but the way our local candidate has gone about it, literally lying about the way he has voted and characterising the LDs as supporting county level issues they don't has been a surprise.
