@Em0nM4stodon Years ago, when websites and corporations said, "We track you to give you personalized ads..." I was like "You lost me at the tracking part." Never considered using biometrics, facial scanning, retina scanning or anything of the like on any device. These things are not supposed to know me. They're supposed to do a thing when I'm using them and stop doing things until I need to use them again. All data will get exploited in the Information Age.

@eff@mastodon.social Amazon has been in the surveillance and data collection and data mining game for most of its years. They even tried to buy Roomba, which exists to send 3d images of your floor plan back to h.q. under the guise of cleaning. IOT was never about our convenience. It was always about surveillance. Do people really not know these things or are they waiting for the bandwagon to feel some kind of way? None of this is new. #surveillance #ring #amazon

@jik I don't usually engage on these online topics, but... May 13, 1985. Philly. Move. I was 9. They dropped a bomb from a helicopter on a house and destroyed a whole city block. They also controlled the narrative. No cavalry came. No justice served. Just lives and property destroyed under the guise of a manufactured threat. We're not new to this. That's why some of us are just detached from it all.

@gbargoud@masto.nyc Thanks for keeping me honest. Last I heard, it was a done deal... but that was awhile ago. In any case, we all know a little bit more about Roomba. Thanks again, though.

@adhdeanasl@beige.party I live by that. I was property of the state so I don't have family, but I never let anyone tell me how to be me. Not being raised allowed me to come up objective, neutral and open minded instead of biased, emotional and entitled. When people claim to like or love me with conditions, they stop existing to me. I don't need validation or acceptance. I need things to make sense to me. I value my peace and personal space more than fair weather friends and family.

@johnmwildlife Mastodon and Pixelfed are both good options for sharing photos. #photography #socialmedia #sharing #pixelfed #mastodon

@flexghost@mastodon.social With or without college, learn skills that allow you to make money with or without an employer. At worst, you'll be able to save money by applying a real skill to your everyday life. At best, you can make money offering those skills to others. If your chosen career path only pays off if a mega corporation hires and keeps you, that's like playing the lottery. Only a select few will win. Learn useful stuff to do useful things.

@ColinWoodArt Dude that is masterful craftsmanship.

@remixtures@tldr.nettime.org Never been a fan of IoT.

@gbargoud@masto.nyc I'm keeping my error up so more people can fact check me. You're the hero of this thread.

@gbargoud@masto.nyc Advice taken. Thanks yet again. I'm planting your flag on this thread cuz you saved it twice.

@lproven @theregister I sropped using redhat when they went closed source circa 2023, but I did really like Fedora. I've only used Debian based distros, but I've never been able to install Debian on any device I own.

@MachineLordZero The Georgia Guidestones announced the plan to depopulate back in 1980. Many steps before and after that have contributed to population decline.

@FeloniousPunk@beige.party Dude just put one leg of some stockings over the vent opening to catch the lint and lay it on the floor. The heat will blow out and rise. We've done that for years.

@statsguy@mas.to Consider an offgrid solar setup as opposed to a tie in grid. You might have to invest in a little more equipment up front, but ultimately, after gauging your energy needs, you could exist autonomous of the utility. Start by isolating a few circuits in the house to just run on your battery fed solar setup. Then slowly expand your array system and batteries or cut back on energy use until you don't need the utility provider. Just a suggestion.
