Qwyrdo and β, music witches
Qwyrdo: Queer trans nonbinary multiple Autistic Buddhist/Pagan witch. Nerd extraordinaire. Early musician and calligrapher. Cat. Ze/zer or they/them. Probably older than you. I post a lot about living with depression and ASD but occasionally go on about one or more of my special interests.
β: I am a subsystem of Qwyrdo. I am robotic in nature. I help Qwyrdo process their experiences. Pronouns are it/its.
Unmarked posts are by default Qwyrdo. If a post is unlisted or public, it is OK to boost!
PSA for witches and Pagans of all stripes: 1st May (when some people celebrate Bealtaine) will be on a full moon. Great time to do The Craft or work on personal spiritual practices that tap into that full moon energy. Just so you know!
Reminder: BandCamp Friday is tomorrow! They give their cut directly to the artists instead of taking a percentage out of profits.
Incidentally I will have a few new releases that day, so keep an eye out!
Celestial PSA: tonight after sunset there should be a near repeat of last night's magnificent sight of the tiniest sliver of a moon alongside Venus in the western sky. I believe the two will be even closer. If it's clear where you are, consider going out and seeing if you can spot them!
Happy May Day! Happy Beltaine! Happy International Workers' Day! May this day of resistance bring joy and solidarity to you.
It's the Qwyrdo here and I have a Bandcamp!
https://eccentric-gear.bandcamp.com
It started out as a platform for my digital performances of early music, but has evolved to include renditions of ragtime pieces from more than a century ago. Plus a whole album of original pieces in that style!
Upcoming: an album of pieces by James Scott (one of the "Big Three" ragtime composers) and a second album of original rags.

Check it out!
Through various circumstances, I have been reminded today that it is magic to find and appreciate small things of beauty in whatever form. A flower, a leaf, a tune, a couple holding hands, whatever. Doing so fills the soul.
Doing so is also an act of resistance in these times of rampant oppression and violence. It is powerful to find the joy that others would take away from you.
Find joy. Find magic. Resist and rejoice.
Bro just shared someone turning the Imperial March (John Williams, 1977 I think?) into a fugue in the style of Bach. Very impressive, both in terms of composition and in terms of performance. You can enjoy it here:
Not even midnight and the Qwyrdo is going to bed down. But knowing ze made at least a small difference in someone's life, even outside of group.
That's why ze continues to persist, boldly. Ze wants to be someone else's Carrie Fisher.
If ze can help just one other person embrace their mental health challenges, they will be golden. A life mission fulfilled.
Be the Carrie Fisher you want to see in this world.
(Making this public. Don't know what hashtags to use.)
Randomly found this at-least-adequately researched (didn't dive into the sources but they are there and I recognized a couple as authorities) video about Inou Tadataka and his monumental early 19th century map of the whole of Japan:

He didn't even start this project until age 55 and did it largely out of his own pocket. Truly an amazing person and piece of work.
Still could use some help on this, including boosts. See quoted post.
This piece from 1925 came across my feed today:

It's interesting to hear how Cobb's style evolved in just about 7 years, from works such as Russian Rag (1918; can't find a good recording unfortunately). The latter piece solidly belongs to the ragtime genre, whereas the former is solid jazz (or avant-garde? unsure).
Anyway, have a listen if you're curious.
Linguist Dr. Taylor Jones deeply analyzes a phonological shift in English as used by many pop vocalists:

He does this by exploring the sound change in "it's gonna be me" moving to something sounding like "it's gonna be May."
