@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org ah memories. first time I visited my ex-in laws beach cottage, I (the newly graduated 'engineer') was handed a VCR that wasn't working after a young nephew had been playing with it. turns out the kid had put a banana in the tape slot, as one does.

@jcrabapple@dmv.community I've never put a pre-order deposit down on literally anything...and this might just be the first. My only single solitary request is having a DIN radio bay (sigh)

@stux@mstdn.social just insane reflexes

@amiserabilist@beige.party Reminds me of the allegory "No one knows how to make a pencil" about the inter-connected world My engineer brain would love to see how the machines we see working were designed and built.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Wasn't there something in the Olympics where guys were stuffing their shorts for some sort of advantage?

@jwz@mastodon.social my line for insanity was creating the .zip TLD

@mattblaze@federate.social to me the middle ground is hashtags. I try to use them and if someone wants to avoid a topic they can be proactive about it. Won't fix everything, but seems the simplest solution

Some of the amazing roadside artwork of the Tour de France race. #Cycling #Tdf #TourDeFrance #Art Also fsck #Copyright as Win11 literally wouldn't let me 'copy' this from my browser. Utterly fair use, but plebes like us can't be granted those rights.

@jrhawley@scholar.social I'm legit expecting them to literally pull the plugs on the ice core freezers before long

@spacelizard@aus.social @sundogplanets@mastodon.social And definitely don't say it wouldn't fit in the boot!

@inthehands@hachyderm.io At first? sure. But at some point, it's past time to move; see Xitter. I gave people the benefit of time with Substack before 2024 elections. No longer.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @hadeny@mastodon.social @DemocracyMattersALot@mstdn.social interesting, and it's pretty recent...so they still have old debt to pay off 😜

@hadeny@mastodon.social @DemocracyMattersALot@mstdn.social NDakota being a donor state seems a wee bit sus to me

@msbellows@c.im I remember listening to Elie Mystal talk about the Constitution & Amendments and their pros n cons in their language. He said something like "I could probably do this in 3 maybe 4 amendments" if he were granted the ability to rewrite.

@APBBlue@thepit.social @Ardvaark@mastodon.world She saved that for the secret photo shoot!

@peter@thepit.social one of my sayings was "The only thing I'll ever hate more than my current job is looking for one" Did the DC beltway consulting thing for 30 years...with 19y and 11mo at one company. It was sorta weirdly interesting working inside a company slowly enshitifying over 2 decades.

@NorcalGma2@sfba.social understood. Even with a 20% deductible, that puts a soft ceiling on the recovery. I still hate that we let ins companies parcel out the *known* risks into separate policies. That's why we buy it!

@Esoteria@social.horrorhub.club from a hospital stay. Puking man gloves

@NorcalGma2@sfba.social I suppose I assumed that most people in CA had such insurance? At least people with a significant property value (read most houses)

@Esoteria@social.horrorhub.club my childhood phone number had 666 in it. And only 4 different numbers lol, including the area code

@mo@icelandphotos.co.uk Very Cool! for more than a couple moments I thought that was some sort of massive crystal!

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social I wonder if the Senate is the real anchor holding back 3rd parties. They aren't going to win state races but conceivably could win some districts. But the gains are squashed by the entrenched 2 party Senate.
