i'm like 600 years old, but i haven't found a text/code editor that feels more responsive than vim in the terminal that i've been using since like the 15th century. even supposedly super-optimized fast editors feel sluggish to me

wow so many of us were so diligent about backing up our purchased music collections in those days and only sharing those CDs with friends who also owned the originals!
i hit some weird LLM infinite loop when trying to get to a human when calling for medical appointment
now i assume every unsolicited email is AI-generated and insincere, which kinda sucks for earnest folks who actually put in effort. volume and slop. this is why we can't have nice things, AI edition

ha this will drive some people here who are over 30 wild ... my students have now started to refer to latex docs as "the overleaf" as in "compile the overleaf"

(no j/k actually javascript in the browser has been remarkably resilient ... even my first webpages from the 90s still work. it's the tooling/ecosystem around it that's a nightmare)

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca great! a process working the way it ought to, refreshing. i suppose that 'older', more niche, or less in-the-spotlight projects may have less-frequent and higher-quality PRs, so the maintainer experience is more pleasant
this is great (really it is, i'm not being sarcastic, i'm fascinated and engaged) ... i'm on a call now getting advice from an alumni about some stuff, and they just said "let me just claude it ..." after we were at an impasse when brainstorming. so now it's a three-way call

@chrisamaphone ooooooh you almost inspired me to try to get my old grad school projects working again ... hmmm i wonder nowadays with webassembly and such whether it's possible to host old stuff in-browser. kinda like how internet archive has video game emulators running classic games
