Like say, when every chocolate bar you can buy come from children working on cacao plantations in Africa, focusing on the statues of slavers from 200 years ago look a lot like a decoy so that business can go on as usual. i think "tradional european values" is used by bigots as an euphemism for conservative christianism, but loose enough to include the ancient philosophers. That expression always pisses me off, first cos Albania is very much in europe but not christian. And then cos the enlightenment is thanks to the arab philosophers who kept copies of the ancient texts that the europeans had burnt down during the middle ages. @akareilly@hachyderm.io

indeed, my analogy is like if i buy a wheelbarrow with a sticker saying "50kg max." then it collapses with 10kg and breaks someone's foot, i can blame the manufacturer. Start it the first time, write your name and that's it. Because it's not linked to a phone number nor pre-existing email, you don't have to go hunting for a confirmation link/code. Made the transition super smooth for a bunch of friends here @delta@chaos.social

so am i getting this 2 points right?

• Chatcontrol 1.0 never had a vote in parliement where a majority of MEP (the democratically elected representants of the EU population) voted in favor
• It was then pushed in a way that unless an ABSOLUTE majority of MEP voted against it would become law

because if that's right that shows a structural problem in the EU even bigger than Chatcontrol itself: the idea that laws can be made by bypassing the democratic process
