Pro tip to middle age dudes: invite people in their 20’s and living their best lives on your summer vacation to feel weak, feeble, and keep you completely humble and aware of the passing of time.

It’s important to establish status and authority in a relationship (so I’m told), but the wife did not favour my suggestion of the steak gravy reduction I made for this evening’s tacos. 🌮 However, she did lick the gravy bowl CLEAN with pieces of the steak separately…so I stand by the fact I was partially correct! +1 point ✅

Just about killed a teenage dashing across the road infront of our car. Had to get out and walk back and yell at their friends that lagged behind while what looked like a group of firefighters near by watched on. I did at one point yell the words, “Do you know their parents?!” We’re all lucky today.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@eff/116817044497841517 While in college, circa 1999-2001, just the idea of 3D printers were freaking out large corps. I recall a WIRED article comparing the fear of everyone using Napster to shared Nike shoe files to print at home. 25 years later that fear has yet to manifest… but it always boils down to same argument. We cannot allow common folk to make their own stuff, otherwise they’ll stop being consumers

@harmonycorrupted@kinkycats.org Agree 💯! And we often do not even notice when we do it. Theory from “Mastery” by George Leonard: Your environment homeostasizes too. The people around you are also invested in you staying the same — they may subtly (or not so subtly) pressure you back to your old self. —- As evolved primates we’re comfortable with patterns and routines…when those in the tribe change it immediately unbalances our environment and reference points. Hate that I am quoting another self-help “guru”, but often remember Brian Tracy saying we also hold everyone to their word without the ability for them to change their mind. “But you said this!” “Yes, but I thought about it and I’ve changed my mind,” “But you said THIS!” “Yes, motherf*cker!…but 👏 I’ve 👏 changed 👏 my 👏 MIND!!!” (paraphrasing)

The heat wave is making me cranky. Need an Earth Suit. I was in a waiting room and irritated by two privileged white women doing that high resister banter back and forth with that passive aggressive tone (“Oh that’s soooo nice…wow….”). It was like listening to a psychotic chess match. I was reading “Oryx and Crake”, by Margaret Atwood… so that might’ve been part of it. :/

If provinces lift U.S. booze bans, will Canadians be buying, or have we lost the taste? | CBC News

Canada is prepared to lift bans on sales of alcohol from the United States in exchange for U.S. tariff relief, sources told CBC this week. But a recent poll showed nearly 70 per cent of Canadians said they wouldn't buy American booze if it returns to store shelves north of the border.

Went to a parade today. It was hot. The building shadow was deeper into the street so viewers were off the sidewalk and standing on the road. I may have instinctively stopped a toddler from toddling into a floater vehicle b/c Mom was on her phone. And this was in part b/c the father before hand was on the sidewalk chirping at his family that they were not suppose to be part of the parade. Yeah, don’t be NPC… get involved fam!

@futurebird@sauropods.win THIS! Very niche but there was a popular forum for Mainframes in the early 2000s that had that cranky variety saying exactly that from dudes (always) that started in the ‘70s and annoyed a new generation out of college would post a simple question. There were even cranky users on Stackoverflow that were trying to police ppl posting questions there. As a protest to this I had started and volunteered at a blog and created a usergroup on Zuckernet and both these places had crazy high traffic despite lacklustre posting. I ended up owning then closing both for various reasons. However the lesson was not lost on me. Where a community is denied, an opportunity for community is created.
