Trading the Galaxy Watch8 for a Core Pebble Time 2.
After years of “standalone” features that were just too clunky to use, I am moving back to the open ecosystem that started it all. Why?
- 30-day battery (estimated) vs. 30 hours
- No more charger-hunting
- Digital sovereignty & ease of dev
- Physical buttons for the win
It is time to stop charging the watch every night and get back to basics. ⌚️🔓

With a port created, here is a quick howto on running snac2 on your OpenBSD server and taking control of your own social network:

It isn't the prettiest of OpenBSD ports, but if you wanted to install snac2 on -current for self-hosting, it works. I will do a setup guide later:
After a few days and software updates, my Pebble Time 2 is getting significantly better battery life. I'm ending the day on this.
Found an interesting app on F-Droid this morning that helps find OSS alternatives to your proprietary apps currently installed. Checkout librefind on Android!
The “ugliest” OpenBSD ports are now operational. 🛡️
Providing bridge support for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and IRC on Synapse. Verified on -current.
A brilliant learning experience in package building; if you want to recruit these for the main ports, have at it!
Any recommendations for running my own mastodon instance on OpenBSD? I am using @OpenBSDAms@mastodon.bsd.cafe and really want to continue moving my networks there
Gemini can you pull some IP information on this static?
Of course! It is in Aberijan!
Nope - Amsterdam...
Also Signal is working great on Jolla SailfishOS with WhisperFish
RF is More Magic Than Science: Exploring Meshtastic
If you are trying to run Instagram and Facebook Matrix bridges on OpenBSD, I have packaged a port for mautrix-meta:
Kagi doesn't come as an option, but it is pretty simple to add search engines to SailfishOS default browser
1 - Goto Kagi.com
2 - Login
3 - Complete a search
4 - Hit the 🍔
5 - Settings
6 - Search engines
7 - Install Kagi
I am slowly moving from apps to PWA everywhere I can. An interesting byproduct of using Firefox nightly on my Android device is that I can use extensions and user scripts for these PWAs. Super helpful for killing things on sites like FB
What if your car interrupted you to ask for a rating while you were driving? Mike Swanson’s latest essay, 'Backseat Software,' perfectly captures why so many modern apps feel like they’re nagging us rather than helping us.
A must-read for anyone in product or engineering. We need to get back to building software that respects the user's attention.

After a few weeks with a Fold 7 and Bluetooth keyboard, this might be perfection for OTG single device
From the C64 to AI-generated architecture. We’re trading "tinkerability" for efficiency, but at what cost? In 20 years, I'll be the guy with the roadside sign: "Traditional Coding Found Here. Just like grandpa used to make." ⌨️⚙️

Just a friendly reminder that Firefox for Android still doesn't have keyboard shortcuts in 2026! I'm glad all these AI features are here though!
Clean energy needs to be more than a feel good choice; it has to make business sense.
RMI analysed over 200 utility incentives to see what actually works.
- Carrots over sticks: Most incentives are rewards. There is a missed opportunity to use penalties to drive reliability without increasing costs.
- Shared savings: Net benefits ensure the public wins more than the utility earns.
- Quantifying equity: Social goals are being successfully met with technical ones.

Here is the LinkedIn post, rewritten in your voice.
There is a massive difference between using an identity provider and actually building one.
My buddy Eugene just wrapped up a project that goes right to the heart of digital sovereignty: a personal month of self-hosting OIDC.
If you are interested in the mechanics of modern identity or just love a good deep dive into the complexity of our ecosystems, this is a must-read.

This excellent podcast features data highlighting the significant growth of solar energy and the current state of renewable energy adoption worldwide. Ember does great work with their reports!

I am trying to force myself to give up gboard despite so many years of muscle memory. Futo has been incredible but the anti-correction has been iffy. These setting plus the split for my fold have greatly helped. Oh and the whisper powered voice typing is amazing
Really enjoy the idea behind @bubbles@social.bubbles.town and using the fediverse for blog discovery. The @dragonflydigest@bsd.network turned me on to it, and I am really liking the new blogs to follow!
I have been looking for an app that would display the Android open source healthconnect data. Google Fit/Fitbit our internet connected and I'd rather just have it all on my phone. Found a great app that will display the health connect information offline.
