mastodon 4.7.2A bloke in the Highlands with an ever decreasing hairline and wind battered face. I spend my days walking at a 45° angle in one direction and running back in the other direction, wildly trying to keep my feet somewhere under my body.
I moan and comment on geopolitics, occasionally comment on tech / vintage tech, history and post pictures of my dogs to distract from all the depressing news I moan about!

There are as many truths in this world as there are people, plus one. Your truth, their truths and the truth, but the truth is rarely ever known.
Sure I could keep up to date with the rather dull and repetitive news on my laptop, phone or tablet whilst working, but why would I when I have an #analogue tv transmitter and an early 2000's #Casio pocket tv? Somehow the news feels more important on this thing. Why is that? Even the brain numbing 'This Morning' feels important when watched on this thing! 🤷♂️🤣

@hireillo@illo.social I seem to remember 'The Animals of Farthing Wood' had many animal deaths for a kids cartoon. I was a young teenager at the time and thought it was hilarious that this cartoon was aimed at young children.

Oh wow. I just accidentally started watching #YouTube without the #Vivaldi #adblocker switched on. First time in ages. How does anyone watch YouTube without an adblocker? It's so bad now. Perhaps it was just the videos I was watching, but there were soooooo many ads and in the most annoying places. I actually have nothing against adverts in principle, I understand everything costs money and its a business, its just the way they go about it. 😩
Been in the #mancave today playing #Elite (very bably!) on my expanded #Commodore16 ( #CommodorePlus4 ) . I can't get over how great this game is, even 40 odd years on. I had played this in the dark and distant past on the school #BBCmicro but think I was too young and didn't have the time during wet lunch breaks to appreciate it. If I had this at home on my #C16 (I know I couldn't) I don't think I'd have ever left the house. So probably a good thing I was stuck with Roller Kong. #RetroTech

@randahl Unfortunately there are too many tabloid readers in England, so the UK rejoining the EU is not going to happen. My fingers are crossed for an independent Scotland which will happily join the EU. But I doubt that'll happen either because as much as it pains me to say, there are too many folk in Scotland who are afraid of change and believe everything they hear in mainstream media.
We all have that box / drawer / cupboard of junk we never get rid of. Time to get this #ewaste to the #recycling centre. Must admit, it was quite fun looking through the phones at old text messages and names, some from 24 years ago! #Remeniscence #Memories Surprisingly the #Nokia and one of the #LG phones powered up without the need for a charge first. They don't make 'em like they used to!

@honor2025@mastodon.social Whilst strictly true I guess, the EC had elected representatives and the Maastricht Treaty was passed through the Commons by our democratically elected (first past the post, so not very democratic) great and good. 🙃 Which I believe was opposed by Labour at the time. So it's not as though the country was just dragged in kicking and screaming. Unlike poor wee Scotland which was dragged out kicking and screaming.

Licences were sold to EU companies by UK vessel owners in the past. Quotas are given in exchange for things we want from the EU. That's called negotiation. Some UK vessels also have access to EU waters, along with Norwegian and Faroese waters. Are these UK vessels stealing from them? 🎣

I didn't know anyone back in the day with a floppy drive until the early 90s when some friends started getting Amigas, and they were considered rich and lucky! I must say, my original C16 back in the 80's and my current expanded C16 rarely let me down loading from Datasette. But I do use a Tapuino these days to load/save .tap files.

@chainq@mastodon.social I love seeing old notes in the game covers, best scores, extra load instructions (c16 games often have mistakes in the covers, wrong joystick ports and things), cheat pokes etc. They remind me of me as a kid doing the same and I wonder where those people are now.

@thecommongreen If you're the richest country and have the most powerful military in the world, such rules don't apply. The US population are the only ones who could prosecute and that won't happen. In fact, without total military defeat, warcrimes can't really be prosecuted. The ICC like the UN are about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
