Apple doesn’t excite me anymore…

A handful of amazing native third-party apps, my investment in hardware, and laziness keep me in their ecosystem for now.

I do love my MacBook Pro M1 Max — largely due to refusing to upgrade to macOS 26 Tahoe 🙃

Apple still makes sexy luxury hardware but wow their software has mostly gotten worse year-after-year for the past 5-ish years and become a trap for their subscription services — I don’t hate most of their services but “pro” subscriptions always lead to upselling and enshittification of “free” offerings.

I don’t need Apple to be chasing “the next big thing” but giving a damn about user experience again might be nice while most of capitalism/tech feels like an accelerating greedy race to the bottom 💩

It’s always interesting hearing my younger friends who didn’t really experience the 1990s and early 2000s react to media of the era. I can’t imagine being a kid today.

There was still more mainstream queer phobic and sexist humor that didn’t age well but things did feel more optimistic and headed in a good direction.

Even being an environmentalist was still considered cool so we had kids shows like Captain Planet and Bill Nye the Science Guy.

I will always prefer a mouse that doesn’t need awful driver software or a wireless dongle…

I have a simple USB gaming mouse that I prefer over the more fancy or wireless ones I’ve owned.

A. I hate this. Glad I haven’t used Google Search as my default in maybe 5+ years now!

B. TechCrunch blocking ad blockers and being an awful reading experience is depressing. Google’s AI scraping will probably kill most of that ad revenue 🙃

:linux:💻 I’m going to install Linux (Bazzite GDX or a similar distro) on a Lenovo Yoga C940 my partner has lying around.

My motivation is to have a secondary travel laptop—my heavy 16” MacBook Pro sucks to lug around for long.

Between Penpot, Figma, and Affinity (via Wine) I should be able to do most design essentials.

Fun excuse to tinker with Linux more!

Anyone know of a guide on how to migrate a Build Awesome (11ty) site to Forgejo from GitHub? I somehow got stuck on the SSH auth setup last I tried 😭 I may just need to try again with fresh eyes.
