Found two very useful services today:
nitter.net lets you read xitter¹ stuff without an account, and imginn.com does the same for instagram. Just replace the respective domains² and enjoy!
Have an example:
https://imginn.com/vagina_museum/
¹ pronounced “shitter“
² and deny all the cookies, in the case of imginn

Well thank you all so much for replying – I must admit I had NOT expected to get this far this quickly! I *am* delighted though, just unprepared.
Since I am on an instance with 500 characters per toot, I think I will pour all the questions into a nicely structured etherpad and then you can chime in as much as you like. Linguist takes are definitely much appreciated, but only one of my questions really needs that I think 😄

@SteveRudolfi I am choosing to look on the bright side of this: it’s an excellent reason to stop using Google as a search engine.

Guten Morgen Fedi, mein ältestes Kind sucht ein Buch:
- gelesen Anfang 2017 auf deutsch
- erster Teil einer YA-Fantasy-Trilogy
- Autorin, Original vermutlich deutsch, eher nicht englisch
- roter Einband
- es geht um eine Elfenprinzessin mit Feuermagie
- Drachen und ein Krieg kommen irgendwann vor, sie reitet am Ende auf einem Drachen

@wffl if crochet is an option, there are some nice patterns on Etsy. Here is a free one which I personally adore - it's not your typical witch hat but I think you can make it work:

@Jer @SteveRudolfi yes!
… I am actually going to write a how to article about this. I know far too many people who do not understand the difference between the search bar and the address bar, and therefore between accessing a domain directly and going through whatever their default search engine is.
I will explain what a browser is while I’m at it.
Siiiiigh… (to be clear, the sigh is 100% directed at Google. I have infinite patience for non-techies.)

Oh yeah go read this everyone. (I'm not finished yet just had to share this bit.)

@mho@social.heise.de Tidal is missing from the streaming services, I think that might currently be the biggest alternative to Spotify.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com another nice one:
The uncomfortable part of all this is that it is not a technology problem. It is a leadership problem. AI does not make bad executives worse. It gives them a faster way to prove they are bad.

@chriskirknielsen personally I think I'm gonna love that one. Assuming it checks the local domain? My clients often copy the whole link instead of just the bit after their domain...

Someone created an issue on Github for one of my Grav plugins. With a solid enhancement idea and a php file attached that they made with Grok.

@samuelFRDE mm, well that's what I need to figure out now. They didn't create a pull request and I assume they did not test the code thoroughly. I think I will look at it and - I dunno. Implement the enhancement myself and integrate the straightforward bits? It's not a very complex bit.
I only know they used Grok because they said so. If it was a pull request I would likely refuse it... but like I said, the idea is good. #pondering It really depends. Mostly I dislike having to deal with this.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com it IS good. Quote that just made me go❗️:
Two out of three chief executives are buying a tool they cannot evaluate, cutting staff on capability claims they cannot verify and calling the result a strategy. On a conference stage, this is called vision. On a balance sheet, it is called an unfunded liability.

@jstepien@mastodon.social I love it! Immediately checked the form I recently handcoded, and it does accept your name… but the letters look a little wonky since the webfont has subsetting without these characters. I wonder if that’s an acceptable trade off for my tiny and usually very local websites… or should I set the font on forms to the system default? Hm 🤔 I shall experiment. Thank you!
