In happier news, I still haven’t intentionally used AI.

Wifey was struggling today with the dealership who sold us the ID.3, they were claiming we had a one-year warranty not two.
I eventually found the paperwork to prove that Wifey was correct, so now I’m wandering around the house saying “ha!” to anyone who’ll listen.
Ha.

Yesterday at work I needed to know our home static IP address, so I sent a message to my 15-yo asking him to send it to me.
He asked if I’d been hacked, and requested a FaceTime chat before agreeing to send me the IP.
Feeling stressed and overwhelmed by work stuff, and can’t even get excited about #iOSDevUK.
If the ticket was refundable, I probably would.
Can we instead all have a nice week at the Welsh seaside and not talk about computers?

In 2018 I raised an issue on a GitHub repo just to say “thank-you”, and I still occasionally get emails when more people add their thanks to the thread.

For years I’ve been a #1Password evangelist, but I think it’s time to look for alternatives.

It’s always exciting to see a new train station getting its first departures. Today is the first time I’ve seen services at Winslow.
So far they’ve had one cancellation due to a fault with a swing bridge, one delay due to sheep on the line, and several replacement bus services.

Relaxing constrains is probably the best option.
Sadly, I don’t see an overwhelming appetite for learning, as many people are happy to ship code if the pipeline is green.
(And if the tests don’t pass, re-run them until they do pass)
There’s little thought about code architecture, and certainly not threading/isolation.
Amused to learn that iOS has a data-detector for Roman numerals.

I did exactly the same yesterday.
Not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I’d rather do it with a supported OS.
Two more hours of painting creosote on the fence this morning, and after two vigorous showers… I still stink.

My colleagues say that AI helps with boring boilerplate… but I’d rather they used their meaty brains to remove the need for boilerplate, not instruct their clunkers to automate it.

On my own private project, I’d happy dive deep into this. But at work we have 100 iOS devs, many of whom don’t have the same level of deep curiosity.

Good question - I have been worrying about innovation, and where the incentive is to innovate now.
If LLMs had become popular 10 years earlier, would Apple have made SwiftUI, when it’s easier to have a machine churn out UIKit code forever?

Yeah, we’re in an era of “make the error go away” rather than “do the right thing”.
I hate to say it, but Swift concurrency is great as an academic exercise in code correctness, but not so good in a day-to-day tool.
An excellent evening yesterday in Scunthorpe: three points for The Good Guys, three goals (including a gem from Josh Stones), and we learned in the dying seconds that Halifax snatched a point against Rochdale.
That’s eight straight wins, and 23 unbeaten.

Maybe they show green if they think it will arrive on time, even if it departs late?
I need to upgrade the drives in my NAS, and I’ve tried three times to order new hard drives.
The first and second orders were cancelled and refunded by the suppliers. The third isn’t due to be delivered until next week.
Today, a pair of drives arrived with no documentation… so I don’t know which order they relate to.
When Amazon support say “my supervisor can’t do any more than I can”, they’re wrong. The supervisor did do more.
I hate to be that “speak to the manager” guy, but sometimes you’ve got to do it.
