Mr B
I talk about #anime, #3Dprinting, and #politics. I mostly exist along I-95 in #Virginia going between #RVA and #Fredericksburg
If you work for a bank, one thing from Debt: The First 5000 Years hits a bit different. It's not just that debt goes from being a moral obligation to a legal obligation. Whole infrastructures are created with minimal tolerances to manage that legal obligation. Campuses and cities worth of people tasked to building and managing systems around that legal obligation. All of that is replicated across the several legal banks, insurance agencies, and other institutions. People who are among the most brilliant and educated leave their jobs to be "high frequency traders" to eek out a microsecond on a swap of a tiny fraction of a company for an infinitesimal portion of a legal obligation. If it weren't for it being reality it would be a bit out of a Douglas Adams book.
I got around to watching the #Gameoverse pilot and I really like it visually and all the nostalgia that it links back to with Kit and Kaboodle and their world pulling aesthetically from Megaman Legends etc.
The premise bothers me and that's not to say it's a bad premise. The heroes fight to maintain a status quo that's unjust and unsustainable to avoid horrors that come with the status quo's end. The villains have a vision that recreates the unjust power they had in the preceding status quo but at least have a vision.
The heroes are seemingly unable to consider a positive future even though they are themselves already in a post-status quo existence.
So, I don't know how the show reckons with that. In the pilot it goes for "you did what you thought was right."
Somebody at the library was cool enough to order Against the State on my request. So I get to read that over the next weeks.
So, I'm seeing that Newsom was the veto standing in the way of ranked choice voting (RCV) in California. And now he's positioning himself to run for president. If he gets the nomination, he'll be leaning on "Blue No Matter Who" heavily. RCV directly hollows out Blue No Matter Who.
So, can we at least say that if a candidate plans to lean on Blue No Matter Who that they can't have opposed RCV in the past or else they don't get past the primary because this is some bullshit.

My kid asked to play Super Mario Galaxy on account of the movie releasing soon and she got to experience the terrible gaming history that is the Wii waggle controls.
In Star Trek it's clear that technologically, you could replicate yourself whole and alive and it happens with transporter accidents, but even in dire situations no group exploits this possibility except that one space station in Star Trek: Enterprise that hadn't mastered the alive part yet.

It's clearly a case of doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, but whatever. In the process we get to have more sound bites of the Trump admin claiming that pushing back against domestic mass surveillance undermines democratic values.
The reason we're seeing so many ruling class people publicly come out as Christian evangelicals while demonstrably not living any of the values is the same reason that Saudi princes pay lip service to Islam while breaking that religion's rules at every opportunity.
What happens if a person cuts the radios out of a telemetry transmitting car? It doesn't make sense to me that the car would just refuse to work without cell service.
I feel like there has to be some way to merge the classic over 9,000 meme with the Pam Bondi over 50,000 meme.
Apparently the HOA wants to put in Flock cameras. WTF! I don't want that even if I weren't paying for it.
I'm in the process of making and rebuilding a few 3D printers and I keep having the idea that since it's custom, any non-functional piece could have embellishments added until the printer itself is an art piece. I keep imagining a printer that looks like baroque furniture or a gothic cathedral.
Has anyone taken LG's WebOS, which is nominally open source, and used it to down convert old LG smart TVs to being dumb TVs? My TV has been really unreliable and I really suspect that the issue is too much software on bottom of the barrel hardware.
I started listening to the Midnight Burger audio drama because I have an occasion to take a hacksaw to aluminum extrusion. It's pretty good so far.
I decided to save a webpage from the view-source page on Firefox and rather than saving the page I was viewing the source of, it saved the view source page itself. I'm a little stumped on whether that is behavior that makes sense, but it made me laugh once I realized it.
I have one 3D printer that is actually working, one that I'm waiting on a pair of new linear rods for, two that I'm making custom beds for, and three (!) that are total rebuilds in progress. So, I would have seven printers, each one different from the others. Ugh, mistakes were made.
*Looks at state legislatures presently moving to mandate locked down tech*
"Why do you guys hate freedom?"
You'd think that being spreadable would be implicit in the cream cheese being a spread. I don't think there is a tub of "unspreadable" cream cheese spread.
I got an ad opposing the amendment in #Virginia. The first part is roughly true, the amendment is aimed to gerrymander the state (in response to Republican gerrymandering elsewhere).
Then it goes for broke saying this will give all the money to illegal immigrants. The Republicans really cannot go 10 seconds without being completely beyond parody.
The product description says all metal hotend. The PTFE tube goes all the way to the top of the nozzle. That's false advertising. The description even claims to support high temperature filament, but the continual clogging when I attempt to print ABS proves otherwise. #3DPrinting
The great, intolerable lifestyle changes people cite as necessary to limit climate change always feel anti-climactic to me. Insulate houses better, ride the bus, don't buy so much crap, eat less animal products.
The thing is, these are all mostly positive or neutral lifestyle-wise when the infrastructure is there for it. Driving 40 minutes to work sucks even without traffic. Big, poorly insulated houses suck and end up uncomfortable anyway. Buying so much crap sucks because then you're either continually throwing shit out or living with unbearable clutter. Animal products are good in moderation but right now they're the biggest component of most meals.
