Finally getting around to build an iOS app for tracking quotes. It’s an experiment, but it’s fun to build.
Despite a junky week, a beautiful sunset. #sjilife #photography #sunset
Here’s just a few drops that brewed up in this week’s Espresso Shots: From inner life to stupid ideas, the magic of streaming radio, the case for slowness, and why automating broken things just breaks them faster.

I love this. I don’t have a special app for moment journaling; I wired up the action button and shortcuts and just use Tot for it. Thanks @Iconfactory@iconfactory.world !

I don't have a specialized bug or issue tracker these days. I just use Tot. Thanks @Iconfactory@iconfactory.world!

Open quoted postTook the plunge and got the Studio Display XDR. I knew the screen would be amazing, but the biggest surprise is the camera. I may actually be able to get rid of the Sony mirrorless rig I’ve been using as a webcam.
Happy “Avoid the Internet” day to those that celebrate.

Huh.. didn’t expect this from the makers of Dark Sky… “Acme Weather” https://acmeweather.com/app
Does Apple consciously move how to update apps in the AppStore every beta to purposely destroy muscle memory?
Been playing with fonts on iOS, and there literally is no rhyme or reason to how custom installed fonts work across apps. Have found at least 4 different dialogs across apps, some show profile installed fonts, some dont… total mess.
Here’s just a few drops that brewed up in this week’s Espresso Shots: AI's boiling frog effect on cognition, resurrecting a 1992 MUD, agentic systems and bottlenecks, secret recordings of 10,000 concerts, and why a project will save you.

@Brilliantcrank@mastodon.social I have been building so many random tools I’ve wanted to, that I didn’t have time previously. The key is, conduct the orchestra. Don’t blindly trust.
But it’s fun again.
I hate when my brain wakes up at 3am, and I start thinking about coffee. Now I have to get some.

@bnjbvr@tutut.delire.party @mastodonmigration@mastodon.online I’ve said this probably 100x the last month alone: “AI is not replacing engineers; it is exposing how much of modern software engineering was optimized around process and time management rather than engineering.”
Glad I dumped the once great DayOne about a year ago. Everlog has been excellent.

@AnthonyBaker @flohgro I have a beefed up always on M4 Mac Mini (m4 Pro, 48gb ram, 10gbe, etc) that I can always get to via Tailscale; also run a bunch on llms on metal via lmstudio here

@flohgro @AnthonyBaker I wish it was a lighter integration- want to easily use commands I’ve set up in code, for example, in the desktop app - dispatch may be really useful here. Inspired to play today with it based on your drafts post. Super cool

@robb I have both the RG35xx and Miyoo Mini Plus; I prefer the miyoo especially with the OnionOS firmware. https://onionui.github.io

@andrewortwein After 30 years or so in software engineering, every few years there seems to be a jump forward that leads the last years behind. But the experience you gain from all that is incredibly valuable.
This one seems a doozy though with regards to ethics and environmental issues.

@Robertbreen Yeah; I know lots of folks who love Obsidian for this stuff. Wasn’t my jam.. but if it works for your workflow, there’s definitely a strong community with it
You know it’s gonna be one of those days when I’m the TSA line, you drop your AirPods, one goes flying over the tsa barrier and you need to flag down an agent to retrieve it.
And it’s not even 5am yet.
