Today was my last day in the #Rust SDK team at #Element!
It's wonderful to look back~3 years in the mirror, and watch all the progress the #ElementX apps have made, with all their brand new functionalities, while being so fast and with a nice and clean UX. I'm proud of all the work we've done and hopeful for the future of #Matrix. Quite grateful to have worked with so many smart people!
Not sure what's next for me (likely Rust/Wasm /Matrix 👀) so I'll take some vacation until I figure it out 😌

Handy: privacy-preserving open-source speech-to-text.
I've recently discovered #Handy, a small #speechtotext (#dictation) application, that is open source and can use only local AI models on Linux, preserving the privacy of what I'm saying out loud by not sending it to some cloud servers. I found it handy (lol), so I figured that I could share some hardships that I've run into while setting it up on #ArchLinux #GNOME #wayland.

Likely if they're numerous and have AI which have sysadmins skills, AI users can rejoin and self-host their own instance? Since AI users tend to publish repos for lots of tiny one-shot projects, it seems reasonable that they bear the cost of the infra?

Some #GameTheory curiosity about the red / blue pill dilemma. If N = # of participants, assuming no way to discuss their options, the Nash equilibria happen to be the same as the Pareto optima:
- all vote red = 1 option
- there's a majority of blue votes = `sum(C(k, N) for k in ceil(N/2) .. N)` which is `2**(N - 1)` options (exactly if N is odd, approximate if N is even).
So the number of Nash equilibria tends to N/2.
If you vote blue, you're playing with your life at heads or tails!

@mitsuhiko@hachyderm.io I agree to some extent; I think the blurry lines might cause endless discussions about edge cases later on, even though they're clearly defining a stance, and this may cause the net benefit of repelling AI users overall.
That being said, I wouldn't say there is *no* alternatives. #Codeberg has gotten a bit of fame lately indeed, but there are other self-hosted #Forgejo instances which are happy to welcome AI users, e.g. #CodeFloe.
