On my first trip out there ~40 years ago, my friend met me in Albuquerque and led me up the mountain to Los Alamos the back way, which takes you through the Valle Grande and Bandelier National Monument. It is simply one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, in any season.
And if anyone was wondering, the mountains of northern New Mexico are my other happy place. :-)

My nephews chose to divide them up and scatter some of them offshore, since he was a diver, and some of them in an undisclosed location on Santa Cruz Island, one of the California Channel Islands just offshore, where they'd gone camping with him.

If you ever watched "Longmire," a friend's dad's ashes were scattered at the edge of the valley where Longmire's cabin was located on the show (the Valle Grande in New Mexico). They were Los Alamos locals and he used to go skiing up there.

He and his wife Connie are members of the Greek Orthodox Church and are frequently seen at St. Barbara’s in Santa Barbara and occasionally at St. Demetrios in Camarillo. I’ve stood in line for communion behind him. He’s also a genuinely nice guy.

@bennomatic Somewhere around here I have a yardstick that I inherited from my dad, who inherited it from his dad. It’s over a hundred-odd years old and is the nicest damn yardstick you ever saw, nicely sanded and finished like it was a piece of furniture. It was from a lumber yard back in Michigan and the phone number on it, IIRC, is 23. That’s all, just two digits.
As a Gen X and Cold War kid, all of this overheated rhetoric and nuclear brinksmanship kind of feels familiar. But if the madman-in-chief sets off a global thermonuclear war tonight, it’s been nice knowing all of you. Well, most of you, anyway. 😉
