Devlog: Update on the text editing journey on Android, iOS, macOS, Safari, and Chrome. it works! Still not finished, but progress is promising. All platforms have pixel-perfect, 1:1 text layout and rendering with first-class native rich text editing.
Portable text layout and editing are not solved problems. Many factors play a role, resulting in the same text rendering differently on every platform. Even worse, it renders differently between web browsers (Firefox, Safari, and Chrome).

Another UITextView + TextKit2 bug reported FB22523964. This one is not new, and my best advice is to not use UITextView 🤷 https://github.com/krzyzanowskim/STTextView has it sorted

@hannesoid@mastodon.social most of the time, yes. though sometimes (depends on the decisions made) typesetting is adjusted to apple or not - such differences is the root cause why multiplatform text layout differs in the first place.

What I'm saying is I rarely work on generic reactjs apps and more custom solution is the more frequent debugging session need a spark. In that sense I don't see debugging going away anywhere. Was not a case in 1982, not in 1995, not going anywhere in 2026, just like solving problems in general does not disappear.

@steipete @xjki @mergesort @dimillian but that's was something that eventually I was able to nail by using intuition, however I deal with more sever bugs introduced by sound fixes that were more of a mitigation than "deep understanding the root cause" and that is hell of annoying to deal with
