Liveblog, the new Mastodon interface designed for live events e.g. watch parties, faced the acid test of #Monsterdon (+ #MonsterMiru) last night... & survived!

Let me post without having to worry about entering multiple hashtags every time (Mastodon web's capricious hashtag autocomplete is the most frustrating "feature" for me during watch parties)
It auto-refreshed & kept up with the flow; maybe not as instant as plain Mastodon, Liveblog perhaps every 1-3 seconds, but definitely good enough. (For me at least; at one point another user said Liveblog would only update every ~60 seconds for them IIRC. At the exact same time, it was working fine for me. 🤷‍♂️)
Enough vertical space for me in my laptop side-by-side watch party setup to be able to see 1-4 posts (depending on their content)

Drawbacks last night (it's under development, & changes/new features are being added daily):

Couldn't click on a post to see its parent/thread
Couldn't edit a post
No notification sounds. Not an issue for me, as I have Mastodon pinned as one of my essential tabs in Zen Browser so I heard notifications from that. (It would sound 3-5 seconds before appearing in Liveblog.)
EDIT: no emojis, had to remember how to use emoticons :D

I'm going to keep using Liveblog for watch parties. Give it a try yourself, watch partiers!

OK, let's do it again!

#ReMonsterdon

A watch party with a monster/scifi/horror film from #Monsterdon's back catalog, 6 hours before the main event.

This time with a poll. Here are some candidates for Sunday 17 May 2026, 19.00 UTC.
(No Godzilla yet, I've got a plan for the big G...)

Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973)

A giant mutant sheep is on the move near a ranch in the American West.

Laserblast (1978)

Teen Billy discovers an otherworldly laser gun in the desert, making him the target of a pair of aliens.

Octaman (1971)

A scientific team discover a pool of unusual baby "octopus-like" specimens, but mum wants her babies back.

Rebirth of Mothra (1996)

A new Mothra takes to the air & battles against Desghidorah to save all of humanity.

EDIT
Here's the #ReMonsterdon NeoDB collection. Just Silver Bullet so far, but each week I'll add the chosen film, with streaming / download links etc

https://eggplant.place/collection/4fudrrfAyocAtkSv6ltlb6

EDIT 2
ARRRGGGGHHH! I forgot that editing a post with a poll resets the poll to zero. Sorry, folks, could you please vote again? 😊

@Taweret@timeloop.cafe I hope I'm not causing any difficulties with this #ReMonsterdon idea. It's an idea I've been mulling for a while, and I was going to ease into gently with diplomatic build-up & testing the waters, but then I couldn't watch Silver Bullet last night because of internet problems, and this morning while waiting for the cab I was thinking about "raw dogging" it (😁 I mean watching it not in a watch party) tonight , and then just thought "it's now or I'll never do it" .

But as my timeline got more & more full, I trimmed them back so I might stand a chance at getting through it. #Mastodon #MastodonHelp

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Yes, I've set the "Filter" languages, not just "Interface" language. (Preferences > Other > Public Timelines > Filter languages) And many of the posts in undesired languages (in my case, 95% German) have been quite long, hundreds of characters. I wonder if following a hashtag trumps/bypasses the language filter. #Mastodon #MastodonHelp

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services I'd like to be able to follow hashtags without seeing posts in languages I don't understand that also use those hashtags. #Mastodon language settings don't help with that & after having a timeline 30-35% in languages I don't know, I've ended up muting hundreds (maybe thousands now) of accounts. In fact, I've started looking at my alt account's timeline (exquisite.social) first because Mastodon's lack of hashtag migration means my timeline there is only people I follow, & only afterwards going to my original account (ohai.social) that includes followed hashtag posts. #MastodonHelp

The Chinese name for today's #KungFuSat film is 江湖情, using the phrase 江湖 (literally "rivers [and] lakes") (jiānghú in Mandarin, gong1 wu4 in Cantonese). Originally a phrase implying a place secluded from the mainstream world, it came to be used other ways, often a mythological setting for stories of martial arts heroes or living the martial arts lifestyle (either heroes or bandits), and later, the modern underworld of gangsters. Many, many #KungFuSat films are set in the world of 江湖. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jianghu (The last part of the name of today's film can be translated various ways... including "lust"!)

#TIL Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster in The Munsters, Leo Schnauser in Car 54, Where Are You?) presented a series of VHS releases of horror & scifi movies, mostly public domain & several shown in the #Monsterdon watch party, from Amvest Video. Him doing a brief intro & outro, not movie-specific (he pauses while an off-screen "Igor" says the name of the film), while appearing very "Grandpa Munster"-esque. Although he actually did it as "Grampa" (not Grandpa Munster), I guess so Amvest & Lewis could avoid having to license the Grandpa character from the rights owners of The Munsters. He also used the legally-distinct "Grampa" brand in other ventures like his Italian restaurant Grampa's Bella Gente and licensed the Grampa's name to a mafia-owned comedy club in Staten Island! I also learned Al stood as the Green candidate in the 1998 New York Governor election, & on Howard Stern's radio show repeatedly chanted "Fuck the FCC!" until Stern snatched the mic away from him! Back to the topic, I discovered this because on Sunday 13 September, the #ReMonsterdon #WatchParty will be showing ゲゾラ・ガニメ・カメーバ決戦!南海の大怪獣 (1970), a.k.a. Space Amoeba, a.k.a. Yog, Monster From Space (previously shown in #Monsterdon), & I came across "Grampa Presents Yog, Monster from Space"! It's on the Internet Archive, so I suppose folks can watch that version if they're "hardcore" :D Munsters Fandom Wiki - Grampa Presents - some infoVimeo - Grampa Presents (clips) - ~7 minute video, typical Grampa Presents intro & outro, plus list of all the Grampa Presents filmsAudiovisual Identity Database - some info on Amvest VideoInternet Archive - Grampa Presents Yog, Monster From Space - full movie, 1:27:47, VHS rip, no subsWikipedia - Al LewisNeoDB/Eggplant - ReMonsterdon Watch Party - watch party info, non-Grampa movie links #FCC #Horror #SciFi #Censorship #Kaiju #Toho #AlLewis #TheMunsters #GreenParty #Monsterdon #VHS #AmvestVideo #HowardStern

It's the #ReMonsterdon watch party's first spooky month of October! The #ReMonsterdon collection on NeoDB #Monsterdon & #MonsterdonDoubleFeature are doing all #VincentPrice films, but: #ReMonsterdon sticks to the #Monsterdon back catalog for its choicesthere is not yet enough Vincent Price in the #Monsterdon back catalog to have a month of him in #ReMonsterdon Instead we'll have a combination of alternative ideas raised in the threads below. Original thread"Opposite of Vincent Price" thread So here's the #Remonsterdon program for the month of October 2026 (start time for all: 7pm GMT, 9pm C. Europe, 3pm US ET) (The first film already in the #ReMonsterdon collection, I'll add the rest as I get links.) 4 October 2026Mothra vs Godzilla (1964)TrailerBecause: Nothing do with Vincent, just because the 1st Sunday of every month is Godzilla Sunday! (If only Vincent had done a Godzilla film...)11 October 2026The Gorgon (1964)TrailerBecause: If not Vincent Price, then let's have a film with the remaining two members of the 1950-1980 triumvirate of horror: Peter Cushing AND Christopher Lee!18 October 2026Cat-Women of the Moon (1953)TrailerBecause: contrast-programming: the opposite of Vincent Price (one lovely, cultured man from Earth) is multiple ferocious women from spaaaaace!25 October 2026Blacula (1972)TrailerBecause: contrast-programming: has "perennial fall guy" Elisha Cook Jr, nominated as another "opposite" of Vincent Price. #WatchParty #Horror #SciFi #MothravsGodzilla #Godzilla #Mothra #Toho #Kaiju #HammerHouseOfHorror #HammerFilms #PeterCushing #ChristopherLee #Gorgon #TheGorgon #CatWomenOfTheMoon #Blacula #Vampire #1950s #1960s #1970s #50sMovies #60Movies #70sMovies
