I have been called a "serious #DataScientist", truth is that I love playing with all kinds of data, first and foremost with #Biological #Data. Now doing my magic in a #Biotech / #Pharma start-up.

I used to be a wet lab scientist. I will always be a foodie fueled by Espresso.

#rstats first but whatever tool gets the job done including #bash, #python. #linux user.

Assuming that there is anyone under 30 on Mastodon, which #music (band, artists) would you recommend? It might be popular or not. What I want are the bands/songs that will be remembered in 20 years as those that (i) defined the times, and (ii) will be remembered as actually good regardless of tastes. For my my Gen it would something like Nirvana, RATM, The Cure, Massive Attach/Portishead, Blur/Pulp, and personal fav, Tom Waits (he is the outlier).

@cd_newton@hachyderm.io @jimgar@hachyderm.io Cheers to both of you. I feel like I will end up comparing both NationalRail and Trainline and pick which one has the best fares and conditions for any given journey.

@MikeFromLFE@cupoftea.social @quixoticgeek@social.v.st Great tip! I had no idea. But having checked the prices, and considering our number of journeys, I am not sure makes financial sense in our case. But worth considering though.

@jfy133@genomic.social @Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org no problem in hijacking and I stand half corrected :) (ironic because I've spent quite some time explaining the difference between nextflow, nf-core and tower/platform to colleagues🤐) Your point about younger people wanting a more live reaction is interesting and does ring true. I guess we will see how the balance between faster interactions and public Vs private will play out in the coming year.

@Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org @bioconductor@genomic.social I get that for things like organising between a smaller group of people, etc, a private chat is better suited. It can also be that people no longer use forums for QA stuff because they will simply rely on LLMs (rightly or wrongly) and forums become outdated. Who knows. I've spent enough time online - pre blogs, blogpost boom, twiter, boards - to know that things will change and evolve with time. My concerns or dislike of a particular format matter very little.

@Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org @lgatto@fediscience.org @bioconductor@genomic.social all those those still exist but there are also a lot of conversations happening in slack for bioconductor. If there is already a public forum, is zulip or slack necessary? Another example is nextflow which AFAIK only has slack and no public forums, and not everything discussed in there is specific to nextflow. But I do take your point at AI crawlers.

Adding some details, there will three of us (two adults, one child under 10), and whilst we don't have our journey finalized, it will not be far off from Stansted -> Cambridge -> London -> York -> Edinburgh, with several days stay at each place.

@lgatto@fediscience.org @Lluis_Revilla@fosstodon.org @bioconductor@genomic.social the next step, and I read it was already being considered is to make the threads public. It irks me a little how much helpful information is in slack/ zulip but not accessible. It's sad that some parts of bioinformatics moved away from public forums and Q&A sites.
