@Alejandro_P AFAIK @shikokuchuo worked with R core to get mirai accepted as a valid parallel backend some time ago. I think it is already supported by base R, but sharing memory is not always possible in all parallel backends, so this work might be better suited as a package instead of inside R itself. (Commenting to also get confirmation from Charlie too 😅)

@R_Foundation@fosstodon.org congratulations to the team. A well deserved compensation for your long and selfless dedication. Looking forward for the photo of the full R core on the award ceremony on November !

@jonny@neuromatch.social Is this from R Language Definition? I see some references not working and I will look into this kind of issues soon.

@DataAngler@vis.social mutate and filter also have the .by argument: df |> summarise(.by = c(species, island), n=n()) |> mutate(.by = species, Pct = n/sum(n))

The only difference is the order TIL that dplyr will warn about grouped operations and further operations that are ungrouped:

From your first example: summarise() has regrouped the output. ℹ Summaries were computed grouped by species and island. ℹ Output is grouped by species. ℹ Use summarise(.groups = "drop_last") to silence this message.

RE: @melissawm@pynews.com.br

Similar impersonation happened on a slack for #rstats people in pharma. Double check who are you talking with (specially on open slacks).

#rstats @bioconductor@genomic.social Has moved away from Slack to Zulip.

The new url is: https://community-bioc.zulipchat.com/

Edit: People already on the Slack should have received an email as the Slack email was reused to recreate the accounts on Zulip to preserve comments from Slack.

@jonocarroll@fosstodon.org I'm suprised by the seq_len(1e9) example. I thought that even without compuler tricks the ALTREP would work to make it faster than the 114s it took on my computer. 🤔

@keyboardpipette@genomic.social I am part of several groups, we use these chats to coordinate agendas, schedule meetings and private discussions (on the Code of Conduct committee). I don't think these should be publicly available, I even doubt it should be stored forever. @lgatto@fediscience.org @bioconductor@genomic.social

@keyboardpipette@genomic.social The support site is still open to the public. There is where conversations about using a package or bioinformatics knowledge should be held. But what moved away from public forums in bioinformatics? biostars.org seqanswers, bioinformatics.stackexchange are all still open... did I miss smting? But I don't disagree with moving to closed forums. If (AI) companies want to profit from the knowledge they should be prepared to pay the price and consequences. @lgatto@fediscience.org @bioconductor@genomic.social

@defuneste @yabellini It says something that we are all so used to paywalls on articles that we don't even try the download pdf button ☹️ Apologies @yabellini for making you post it!

@yabellini oh, I saw the paywall and didn't attempt to download the file as I assumed it would also be behind a paywall. The piece was cut right where you come in.

@jimgar@fosstodon.org there is a working group by the R Foundation to increase the pool of people that contribute to base R (and also to encourage women to do so). I think there is potentially a woman that could be added (if she accepted). The way the R core work and how python maintainers work is widely different, tough.

@coatless@mastodon.social I noticed a few contributors duplicated. How should we help with those? On the blog post I only found "The current alias file covers 82 groups spanning 928 email hashes, focusing on prolific contributors where fragmented identities are most visible. This is ongoing work and contributions are welcome." The link points to a 404 page: "The main branch of data does not contain the path aliases.json.". Great work!
