Software Developer in South Africa.
Which is like Africa, but more south.
I commit sins in Java, using Spring Boot and assorted sordid tech.
This is my fourth mastodon account.
I will try to keep this one nice. And clean. And...less weird.

I am glad that another large scale #PV power project has come online.
But then my confusion starts.
They built a PV power plant, to power a...coal mine. exclusively. no grid feedin.
A coal mine that feeds a monster-sized coal powered power plant (that feeds national grid)
Are we, as a civilization, really this fucken stupid?
*checks notes*
ok, seems we are.
fuck.

@jz@mamot.fr I do not use it, but my skimming the link gives me strong onion-routing (Tor) / RetroShare / i2p vibes, with lots of p2p soul mixed in.
also a lot of high-minded ideas!
interesting.

@da_667 at this point I'm kinda hoping the whole dumpster fire of an industry goes up in such a spectacular fireball that the the subsequent hearings and trials continue well into the 2040s.
So...I agree with you.
Funny thing tho - for the bad actors to profit, they actually need the shitshow to somehow still function. at some level at least.
hhmm.

@evacide@hachyderm.io I suspect that there exists this mindset that this is is just "teething problems".
That the kinks will be ironed out eventually and it will be smooth sailing going forward.
However, I think that is...wrong.
As adoption/deployment/infection grows, quality will drop. Systems will becomes usability quagmires. Breaches/exploits will get worse (or easier, depending on your pov).
This is the new normal.
Well, until we hit the next low point, which will then be the new normal.
Maybe some stable point can be achieved, but I don't think capitalism really allows that.
What a time to be alive.

@steve@mastodon.nexusuk.org @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social you do , if your pension fund investments are tied up in that shit.
Which it sounds like it very well may be(soon).
And even if not, a whoooole slew of other stuff will be mixed in, because reasons.
So if they go down, aaaall kinds of other shit starts going down (think banks etc).
And if THOSE go down... you get the idea.
Great system we have, innit?
