Happy 25th birthday to SpamAssassin! The first commit was made to CVS back on this day, 25 years ago: https://github.com/apache/spamassassin/commit/ba0548fa2d1fce1051d6303e2d425340f8f4d2f7

Oh crap. Gmail is deprecating support for picking up mail from a remote server using POP3 polling in January 😭 Given that I switched to this mode due to reliability problems with direct delivery via mail forwarding, this really sucks...

@nelson@tech.lgbt I know! It had a very elderly no-js-just-html UI flow; I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of UI related dependency deprecation drove this

Hey folks, let me know if https://fediverse.jmason.ie/jmason_links , @jmason_links , works and can be followed and unfollowed successfully -- I've switched it over to https://gitlab.com/edent/activity-bot/ (thanks @Edent@mastodon.social !)

@davidgerard@circumstances.run the Verge have been reviewing these over the years and it's still pretty consistent, as far as I can make out: they are very pricey, and disturbingly fragile compared to a "normal" phone.

Replying to
@Edent@mastodon.social I should take a look. A few years back, Google decided my blog was a scam site for some reason? (I used to write a lot about anti-spam and phishing, so there may have been scam signatures in old posts). They delisted it almost entirely from the search index. Even after escalating and supposedly getting the issue resolved, nowadays I get zero traffic from them

simonw: "After many years in the microservice mines I came to the conclusion that I value SQL joins a whole lot more than I value independently scalable encapsulated data stores."

100% this. I think the "independently scalable encapsulated data stores" might be the worst bit of the Microservices Dogma

@danluu as I understand it, the vaccines are restricted based on risk level -- RSV is more serious for people in those age ranges, and us adults are left to deal with it by ourselves :(

@faduda Banks, in particular, are blocking their apps on unlocked or non-Google-based Android-derived platforms, citing some kind of security-related reasoning. I haven't seen a good explanation as to why this makes sense -- do scammers force their victims to bootloader unlock their phones? How would that work? Why?

@nelson@tech.lgbt no, I don't think so. There seems to be IMAP support in the mobile Gmail client? But it doesn't sound like it pulls to the real Gmail store
