something i never really got: how is "this'll be my year" fundamentally different from someone who is {in prison,an addict,whatever} feeling they've had some revelation about the beauty or value of life or wanting one last chance to do things right

@cwebber probably overspecific but I think non-highway driving is the first thing to try and eliminate cars for, short/mid-range with small load is what bikes are more naturally suited to and cars are often extremely stupid in that application going several hundred miles on a bike is rather an undertaking, and trains can't go to the range of endpoints a car can

@scott @cwebber well, nature doesn't much matter when the investment is, as you say, done and I'd rather things got better now even if there are people blocking the other changes
