"Legacy code" is often code that you want to replace because you don't understand it. The problem is, before you can replace it, you need to understand it, and, once you understand it, replacing it is rarely the cheapest option any more.

Maybe I should just abandon this fediverse thing. If I can lose my connection to other people when neither I nor they have done anything wrong, maybe it's not that resilient after all.
EV drivers: "A challenge with EV is that there are too few charging stations."
Car manufacturers: "We'll solve EV problems with hydrogen cars."
You can't make that up.
First world problem: I've upgraded to a 32" monitor (from 27") (on loan from my wife @eugenialoli@mastodon.social) and it's a bit too big to run my browser full-screen like I'm used to.
@lahosken@hachyderm.io @ab@androiddev.social As far as I can tell their core is in Germany, with a few points of presence around the world (including in the US) that are there for performance but can be removed with no loss.
Sorry for the rant, it's just frustrating that my primary presence in the fediverse is in limbo with no clarity whether my account can be salvaged unscathed from this debacle.
Hoping that I can get an account on another mastodon instance before mine gets banned... (I've applied for one, but I don't know how long it'll take to get approved).
@mos_8502@studio8502.ca Yeah, looking for a way out while there's still one. Last thing I wanted to deal with right now.
@mms@mastodon.bsd.cafe We humans, when working on paper, prefer to multiply by writing down all the partial results and then adding them all in one multiline addition, which results in carries that can be larger than 1. For computers, it's easier to accumulate intermediate results as you go (and that's why the accumulator got that name).
@mms@mastodon.bsd.cafe even in decimal math, a carry can only be 0 or 1 when you add 2 numbers.
