First time to Japan (in Okinawa), and so much about it is rad. The US could simply never sustain cloth curtains on a public bus.
Some fun shots from town today.
mastodon 4.7.3VP of Vibes at a PR joint, but my career doesn’t define me.
Former journo for a site you might have read. Western Mass community evangelist, town representative. Star Trek defined my political consciousness, forever dreaming of Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism.
Posts about phones, Android, tech, keebs, kayaking, my sweet-ass cabin, and my rad van. Occasionally 💩s on hateful conservative ideologies — unapologetically.
I turn my phone off on weekends and vacations.

The luddites were right. Burn it all down.

@grimalkina@mastodon.social I work in PR and this is my life, and I understand it isn't uncommon.
I think it's one of those "bravery isn't the absence of fear, it's just not letting it control you" things, except with your own self-cringe.
Full disclosure: I am working on this account, and with my MS I’m intrinsically biased to think the subject is cool. But seeing some of the recent developments in accessibility like this has been heartening for me given everything else that’s going on.
It is 2025 and somehow I still can't rely on a phone camera to reliably and consistently choose landscape vs portrait correctly. And, worse, the process to fix that before sharing a photo is still more than a single extra tap.
Thank god I have a bunch of Al features I'II never use, I guess?
Gotta pay the troll toll to hike behind the cottage.
I actually do use one, with a caveat. Every weekend that I can, I turn my smartphone off and switch to a dumbphone.
I’d do it full time, but my job wouldn’t be compatible with it. The joy of fully disconnecting is real, though.
Cooking is one of my favorite activities. I insist on cooking breakfast every single day, and I feel like I’m starting to get sort of adventurous with it.
Today’s is jalapenio, shiso, and onion rice porridge topped with fried bacon, sweet potato, and poached eggs, with sesame oil and ponzu.
There’s this combo Google Drive/project management system called Feishu (or Lark) that a lot of our clients use, and it’s the single most sociopathic, unintuitive, garbage UX I have ever experienced.
I hate everything about it and despise that it even exists.
If the AWS stays down for more than 15 minutes you are legally allowed to go home, it’s the law.
We’ve reached a point where new gadget is just a long con for a bunch of VC to turn something you come to depend on into something that makes your life worse for profit.
It really doesn’t have to be that way, but we never hold them accountable for it.

My Western Massachusetts fellows: Dave Hayes (of The Weather Nut fame) just released his weather app. Finally, accurate weather for the Pioneer Valley area on your phone. iOS-only for now, though.
97% of my social networking is just DMs and group chats now. Much better vibe.
