Currently working on a history of doxing.
I am doing a research project on the history of doxing, which has involved a lot of scouring through various old #bbs list serves, etc. I have found many of them so amusing that I've decided I'm going to share screen shots regularly here! Thank you the #defacto archive for this one. Signature by the Amiga crew in 1993 #internethistory #warez #hackerhistory #realfriendshiprulesbusinesssucks
Adequately sums up what being in higher Ed is like right now
I just want to make a bunch of weird goofy websites now. Maybe try and replicate what my blog looked like when i was in middle school? Maybe try and make my own pastebin? #selfhosting
Do I know what I'm doing? not really! But theres always w3schools website.
Well anyways. My fatalism is showing through yet again . At the end of the day all I can do it show gratitude for what I have. Thank you for the countless researchers, writers, technicians, practicioners who have inspired me to be so passionate about FOSS, the fediverse, and what it may look like to build a better internet and digital media world. @rwg@aoir.social @kdriscoll@aoir.social @eilah_tan@aoir.social @cwebber@social.coop @jon@scholar.social @alexmonea@aoir.social to name a few
i FINALLY got a #yunohost set up! I'm so excited! I was originally trying to get my own computer but I realized that it was overwhelming me trying to figure out what the rights specs of a computer I should buy, which was delaying me from actually starting a yunohost. I have a VPS for now, but hopefully that'll change soon enough.
I am so saddened by the closing of #hampshirecollege . Being apart of the five college consortium (Mount Holyoke for me) and my experience taking classes there were beyond formative to who I am as a person. I wish every university could approach education for students the way that Hampshire tried to do. Instead of like cogs in a machine. God bless everyone trying to keep the humanities, critical (social) sciencea and liberal arts at large alive.
Trying to figure out why I had a dream that I invited @rwg@aoir.social to speak at my university but I didn't tell him that it was to actually be the half time act at the semifinal football game.
I feel like i have this mentality where i only want to go deep into a media or tech project if i do it in the most advanced or coolest way (i.e setting up my own docker container thing versus using yunohost, or getting my own home server versus getting a vps). But you know what? maybe i just start small and at the noob levels!
Second screenshot from some years later (around 2000). I would really love to know what the world's first largest collection of bad code was! #internethistory Where is the "ask gen x programmers" page? #askprogrammers #programming #pastebin
I am working on an article about pastebins and their histories and my favorite thing about it so far is the original pastebin taglines. #pastebin #internethistory #programming
In other news, I"ll be speaking at #counterspy conference this weekend in Atlanta hosted by @mir@infosec.exchange "Doxing and the politics (and panics) of online safety" Sunday at 11am. Looking forward to it!
