I love it when a company very deliberately produces a product which is, effectively, giving the finger to another company's product.

That sound you hear is a thousand CEOs suddenly losing interest in #AI.

New AI Designed to Replace CEOs. https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/new-ai-designed-replace-ceos

The team describes their AI system, perhaps with their tongues in their cheeks, as a “senior advisor with Harvard MBA-level knowledge.” Whether you believe that or not probably reflects how much stock you put in Harvard MBAs.

NOTE: I've often claimed businesses are usually successful despite the people in the C-Suite, not because of them.

I see people talking about California's Prop 40, wondering how someone who has that kind of money will be affected in any significant way by a mere 5% tax. But you see, when you are talking those kind of numbers it's not money anymore; it's power. And you don't keep power by giving up even a fraction of it. #uspol #EatTheRich

Paul Krugman explains why, even though the Federal Reserve didn't recently raise rates to control inflation (which they should have), the Bond Market increased yields anyway.

The Bond Market Doesn’t Like Bullshit. https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/the-bond-market-doesnt-like-bullshit

… the 30-year Treasury rate spiked and the dollar fell slightly. In plain English, this was the equivalent of bond market traders running for the exits.

And now it's FAFO time for the USA dollar. Just don't use the 'D' (Deflation) word…

Wow! I forgot about the whole Tylenol Murders thing, even though they were why everything has five seals you have to break or remove to get into the package nowadays.

Idaho case may be connected to the 1982 Tylenol murders, officials say. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/health/idaho-case-may-be-connected-to-the-1982-tylenol-murders-officials-say/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=RSS_seattle-news

Once detectives identified Betkouski and began to learn about him, they came to believe he was a possible suspect in the killings of seven people in the Chicago area with cyanide-laced Tylenol, Cooper said.

It's so odd to me, to see many smart people re-debating and re-iterating the thinking about #AI, which I and so many others in the #SFF community worked through after Vinge published his #Singularity paper in 1993. But today they go further and take it far more literally than we ever did.

I suppose this is because AI is current and immediate, while it was pie in the sky to us. But really? It remains naive speculation and we, at least, understood that.

Abraham Lincoln

> "As a nation, we began by declaring that 'all men are created equal.' We now practically read it 'all men are created equal, except negroes.' When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read 'all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics.' When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty — to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy."

I am SO TIRED of all the stupid bullshit laws and regulations politicians come up with to 'protect children'.

It's not like I think children should not be protected. Of course I do! It's more the way those politicians either cannot remember being teenagers themselves or else they are using 'protect the children' as a cloak while they reduce everyone's liberty en mass via rules teenagers will simply ignore or work around.

And I know which of those *I* think it is.

After all, if you can claim rioters who attacked police and smeared shit on walls were 'horribly treated' and deserve reparations, then what about the descendants of slaves and those today still treated horribly by police and the justice system for their skin color?

There certainly seem to be two standards here…

#bubblewatch update:

It's good seeing this kind of thing in #newsmedia consumed by average people. It's bad seeing this kind of thing glossing over the details to the extent it becomes unconvincing in order to be consumed by average people.

The #AI #bubble could be worse than the dot-com bust. https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/5925202-tech-bubble-ai-driven-growth/

But with both the broader economy and the ongoing bull market relying heavily on a concentrated AI-driven boom, the fallout from a burst bubble could be severe.
