journalists, I am BEGGING you to interview archivists from places other than the Internet Archive. The IA is cool, we all love it, but the perspective of IA is not representative, they are really an outlier in the #archives world. ++ The IA is just one institution doing #webarchiving among many. The NDSA has tracked web archiving activities since 2011 and is a great place to find more #archivist experts on this topic. Some great folks are named here: https://www.ndsa.org/2026/06/03/it's-here-the-2026-ndsa-web-archiving-survey.html

@maxleibman @Pettet8 yep. We passed a millionaire's tax in MA. Millionaires didn't leave and it's generated more $$ than we expected. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/delivering-on-fair-share-impact-report

@aredridel@kolektiva.social I worked in software preservation for a few years and i think "the old forms will still be there in a lot of cases" is massively optimistic about what software and coding knowledge will be preserved. We've already lost a lot of knowledge from previous generations before gen AI joined the party. Digital forms of knowledge can't continue to exist without intentional preservation interventions, which is not currently happening. @timnitGebru@dair-community.social

I wrote for @Nature about how archivists and librarians have laid the groundwork for a smooth transition to open, #FAIR, and reproducible research data. Bring us in early on your next project and get involved in digital library communities to build longlasting relationships✨

@overholt@glammr.us @debcha@saturation.social Personally I learned about a lot of bike infrastructure I didn't know existed, because I was avoiding the T and crowds. Now i'm way more comfortable biking around the city. Unexpected world cup inspired multimodal transportation wins!

@CheapPontoon Bandcamp good. I recommend downloading everything you buy bc you can and do own it, and what a privilege that is these days. But i have over 1000 albums owned and i have not followed my own advice to back them up anywhere. 😬 I've been using it since 2011 and have no complaints. I guess maybe playlists are more onerous than like spotify? But i never used spotify before so this is not a thing i ever got used to or expected from a music app.

@mpe Your writing work is highly valued in the community. Your preservation work is impressive, and you're generous to write about the process. Thank you! Have you talked to archivists at your institution about donating your work, including the blog when you are no longer able to maintain it? I've worked at a couple university archives where preserving faculty work is part of the mission.

So things crumble, progress stops, because all the money is now in a few companies' executives' pockets instead of our tax base. So much deferred maintenance and backsliding social services.

"Change was driven then by ordinary people making choices for their lives. Debate about identity, belonging, and responsibility were as much a story of 1776 as they are in 2026. #America250 is a reminder that civic engagement, open dialogue, and community action still matter today, and we have the power to shape the nation we want to be a part of."

From a Mass Cultural Council write up on recent America250 funded projects in MA: https://massculturalcouncil.org/blog/change-was-driven-by-ordinary-people/

@angelastella It took me a min to find the guidance so i wanted to repost here: Right now, we’re asking our community to continue publicly voicing their support of Bandcamp United while also continuing to support the artists & labels on the site. Bandcamp United stands in solidarity with workers everywhere, and that means musicians, too. We’re not calling for a boycott of Bandcamp by any means. We love Bandcamp, which is a big part of what led us to form BCU in the first place. @CheapPontoon

Anyone know what the musicians from les georges leningrad are up to these days?? I loved them in college and think about them not infrequently.

I just read their wikipedia page and saw that they had a cool stage show, something i never knew about them! Just loved their #music from the lowcountry of SC before youtube etc 🌴

It's national #library week in the USA ❤️

celebrate by taking action! call your legislators this week about a piece of legislation affecting libraries in your state or municipality.

my state of MA had the 4th highest number of book ban attacks in 2022 and there's a bill in the House (already passed by Senate) to make it harder to ban books. Here's an email template to write your MA legislators about it: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/ma-house-book-bans-spring2026

@Richard_Littler@mastodon.social I use obsidian and love it. I don't use canvas style notetaking but it has that functionality. Unfortunately i can't say more to compare obsidian canvas to onenote. Less bells & whistles overall in obsidian; it's stripped down to the basics then you add plugins to add features.

@joeo10@mastodon.sdf.org Yeah but it also looks like there was 0 critical thinking in this decision. No landscape review of options, no RFP or Q to solicit ideas from vendors, just a call from automattic to brewster and a "yes" on the other end. And IA *does* have control over that. If it went down any other way it'd be great to hear more publicly. @disaster2life@pleroma.debian.social @internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org

@lalonsander@chaos.social I love seeing these articles each year after canvassing and phonebanking to get this passed! One annoyance is that journalists never emphasize the tax is for people who make more than $1 mil in a *single year* , not just that they are "millionaires." Plenty of people hold more than $1 mil in savings, make a high 6 figure salary, and are not taxed. You have to be seriously loaded to *bring in* over $1 mil a year and that's who this tax bracket is affecting.

Start your day with this amazing Go Kurasawa set from #KEXP ✨️

https://youtu.be/Cx-BhTkZf8A?si=uEAucpNDmrHqCO6w

Soft Shakes is one of my favorite #psych albums of the past year. Go wrote and recorded it entirely on his own. You'll hear a range of percussion and bells, cornet, tenor sax, clarinet, flute, and more.

He met the studio musicians in Nashville 10 days prior to the show and they put these beautiful arrangements together. Incredible!

@targetdrone@mastodon.social 💯 come on people, we have to talk to each other through conflict. That's the work. The statements and internet comments are not the work. I'm not defending Framework, what Nirav did was a huge misstep. That will certainly not be corrected if people refuse to talk to him directly about how they are affected. @tommi@pan.rent @jcape@hachyderm.io @wingo@mastodon.social @fraxinas@chaos.social
