The most mindbending part of vacation is watching children and adults put up with fucking mobile ads. Half of them are ai generated tiktoks advertising shit that doesn't work or maybe even exist, the other half are interactive games that the kids will sit there and play until one of their parents holler YOU AREN'T PLAYING THE AD, ARE YOU? Like actual irredeemable liquid pig diarrhea for the brain. This is in addition to the banner ads at the bottom of the video game, one had a transparent background and tried to look like a button within the game itself. Children are growing up thinking this is normal, too. I think Google and their board of directors should be on trial at The Hague.

There's a variety of reasons I'm going as slow as I mean, least of which is how low-level I've been doing everything, but my assumption has remained that if you have a decent foundational engine that has a veil of separation between game and engine code, you can be off to the races building games on top of that. (One of the classic blunders, no less.) If you had "a harness" and "API access" and just let the basilisk go at it, I'm sure you could trim down the four-ish months I've been working down into like a couple weeks of fruitful work.

@teto@cawfee.club There's another solution to this by the way, if you're brave/stupid enough to try it: Install Gentoo in a chroot on the system you're already running, and then copy all the files out of the chroot and onto the live system.
There was a magic rsync command that I can't find right now, but if you actually care I can go digging deeper searching for it.

People are finally actively talking about using Resolve instead of Premiere, Affinity instead of Photoshop/Lightroom, and lots of other stuff for drawing instead of Photoshop for that usecase. The alternatives are finally getting good enough to get their foot in the door, and you can tell by the way people are talking about them.
