The day before feature freeze, the CPython team is busy reviewing last minute PRs, but today's latest #GitHub outage is eating review comments.

We are resorting to pasting screenshots of reviews around in PRs and DMs.

Just as importantly!

After two years, it's now time to ceremoniously hand over the `main` branch to @savannah@fosstodon.org!

`main` is now accepting new features for Python 3.16, and I bet it's going to be even better than 3.15.

Hey @hugovk, we are working on pushing this rc to Fedora Rawhide (development version), which is not yet updated to 3.15. That should give us some feedback, hopefully, but it will take a while before we get some. If the final is to be released in 2 days, I am afraid we will arrive with feedback (if any) too late.

@grant_h@mastodon.social @brass75@twit.social @stylus@social.afront.org Right, by all means open a new topic at https://discuss.python.org/c/ideas/6 about reviving it. I suggest reviewing the previous python-ideas threads from 2021 first, and addressing any major concerns raised there. The PEP is still in draft, so in theory could be revived, although in practice it may be better to write a fresh PEP. (Then again, PEP 661 was recently revived and just got merged for 3.15!) The original author is active on Discourse so I expect he'll reply.

@ancoghlan @hynek @davidism Oh, we've had reports about scanners complaining about Pillow test images, ones we crafted especially to make sure our fix works. Yes, we could delete the test image, but then we might break the fix and ship a vulnerability in real code!

@danielquinn@mastodon.social Thing is, we already have another 1.5 million of self-hosted minutes. Some of that CI is very slow and a bottleneck, so by default runs after merge: it's a pain when things then fail (especially on release day!). Unfortunately, I don't think it's feasible to double those queues.

@kura@hai.z0ne.social Thanks for the kind words and suggestions! We use a lot of CI across many OS/architectures, and unfortunately Codeberg and GitLab's CI cannot support that. We already have a lot of donated self-hosted CI too, but I don't think that can scale.

@danielquinn@mastodon.social Do you have some references/links to how they do it? What do they do for CI?

@nojhan@social.antigene.org How is the CI on Codeberg? At least for self-hosted, I don't think we could provide enough compute.

@nojhan@social.antigene.org 1.5 million minutes per month across Linux (x64 and arm64), macOS (arm64 and Intel) and Windows (x64, win32, arm64). We need to support these tier 1 and 2 platforms, and tier 3 is a bonus: https://peps.python.org/pep-0011/ Unfortunately https://docs.codeberg.org/ci/ says only linux/amd64 is available and: "CI access is provided as-is and might break at any time and for an undefined period of time, due to server issues, for testing and maintenance purposes or human error."
