Spring has sprung in Sheffield, UK. Lots of apple, pear and quince blossom. I planted the quince tree in February/March 2021 and had three fruit from it last year. Last autumn was a mast year for walnuts. I have at least four seedlings from the (Juglans nigra) black walnuts that I gathered. #sheffield #juglansnigra #cydona #quince #walnut

@Pamela1960 if the Greens can win in Darwen and Rossendale, they really can win anywhere. There's a film in the BBC archives about 'Mr. Gandhi's visit to Darwen. #darwen #Rossendale

@streetartutopia this must be fake news as the date is 11th of the 25th month. Months only go up to 12.

@Vibracobra23 @david_castleton I think I know the lane you mean. I heard that a lot of the dog hauntings are thought to derive from church grims- when they would kill a dog due to belief that the first thing buried in a churchyard couldn't go to heaven.

@kathimmel@mstdn.social gambling is bad but I wonder what sort of odds you can get on 5% attrition over the next 12 months? Easily achievable with the track record of expulsions, defections, convictions and resignations when they realise they have to go to meetings and stuff.

@elaterite this is Trump's America. Back to steam trains now you've choked all the oil off!

@tml@mementomori.social @BrentToderian@mastodon.online this account has misreported that statistic previously and I pulled them up on that occasion. Now I am very much in favour of traffic calming but Reform/Trump style misrepresentation is not the way to go about it.

@greenpeace@mastodon.social worryingly oil company lobbying has worked at EU policy level, with themed research topics for plastic recycling prioritised over research into bio-based packaging.

@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe how do you define 4.5 hours by train? Real world time or railway timetable theoretical time?

@albertcardona@mathstodon.xyz can you do another comparison where you contrast ERC budget plus research budgets of all countries within the ERC? ERC isn't the only game in town for government research funding. UKRI will be ~£10Bn annually by 2030, for instance. https://www.ukri.org/who-we-are/our-vision-and-strategy/updates-on-our-2026-strategy-and-budget/2026-budget-allocations/
