Zou iemand van BNN/VARA mij kunnen uitleggen waarom er maar liefst 90 "partners" nodig zijn voor "het verrijken van artikelen" of iets fundamenteels als het "goed laten functioneren van deze website"?

Ik zette zo'n 30 jaar geleden mijn eerste website online, en ik heb nog nooit, NOOIT, "partners" nodig gehad om iets goed te laten functioneren.

Misschien moet BNN/VARA eens met ProcoliX komen praten, wij kunnen websites draaien zonder de hulp van 90 partners...

...en zonder bezoekers in een zak te naaien door ze door 90 "partners" te laten bespioneren.

Wie heeft de controle online?

Veelal zijn dat grote commerciële partijen, die diensten aanbieden om daar veel geld mee te verdienen. Hun belang is niet jouw belang; jouw belang is de motor voor hun belang.

Word soeverein, neem het heft zelf in handen! Met je eigen Matrix-server bepaal jij wie er toegang krijgt en wat de regels zijn.

Setting up the bridge is pretty easy, your Matrix admin should be able to fix that by following the documentation.

The documentation you mention works with Docker, you can also follow the Mautrix docs:

It's all you need, I'm not sure if it can be documented much shorter or easier than this.

The big thing is, of course, that in this setup you'll still need Suckerberg's spyware running on your phone. The only way around that, is to install an Android virtual machine somewhere, and run WhatsApp there.

I've never put much effort into that, because I left WhatsApp when Suckerberg bought it, and without an account it's pretty much impossible to test anything 😉

@TimothyRoes@mastodon.social I have more or less blackmailed people to join, simply by leaving #WhatApp long ago. When Suckerberg bought it, that was my cue.

At that time they had the choice to keep in contact via Signal, SMS or e-mail, or not at all. I lost many connections there, but not the really important ones: the people that found it worthwhile to keep in touch.

Matrix is trickier, especially if you already "forced" people to Signal before...

But then, news items about governments starting to use #Matrix should help people understand that maybe it's the future.

Tricky to get the uninterested on board. Mayby some subtle coercion by only sharing the fun stuff on #Matrix, and laughing loudly when a new message arrives..?

Onboarding is a key component, which requires a nicely configured server and Luddite-friendly documentation.

The latter is a lot more work than the former...
