If you haven't seen politizane's 2013 video on #wealth #inequality in America, it's been updated for 2026, and is being followed up by three new videos, the last of which comes out on September 30. The first two new videos are out, on #income inequality. As a Georgist, allow me to point out that we already know the solution, because Henry George wrote all about it in "Progress and Poverty", all the way back in 1879. #USpol #VTpolhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GxlL5-0m_g

Solar, maybe, but punk? Certainly not. #Bicycles and #velomobiles are #solarpunk. #Walking and #handcarts are solarpunk. #Horses are solarpunk. #Urbanism is solarpunk. #CommunityGardens are solarpunk. Highway speeds are never solarpunk. EVER. It's the going 100+ Kmh for 500+ Km at a stretch with 1000 Kg of cargo that makes cars bad. A electric quadcycle that weighs 600 Kg fully loaded wth two adult humans and their cargo and goes 50 Kmh max for 100 Km on a charge is not the same thing.

"AI" is not "artificial intelligence", and it should really be called "IA"—*incompetent automation*.

Kinney Drugs should have their license immediately suspended, and not be permitted to dispense in #Vermont. This is gross #malpractice.

Every single limited access highway in an urban area should be torn down and replaced with urban fabric and revitalization of our crumbling rail system, which is the single most important improvement to our public #transportation policy we could possibly make. #urbanism Not #HighSpeedRail, just fix the existing conventional rail system, and put back into service #railroad rights-of-way that have been unwisely abandoned.

Publicly owned #banking is key to breaking the back of #neoliberalism and #neofeudalism. I'm going to keep saying this until people start to understand it. Lending is a license to literally print #money, and the power to print money belongs in the hands of the trustees of the people, not in the hands of private, for-profit corporations.

The reason why I hated the Paladin class in #DnD when I was younger, was not merely because I had a bad experience of religion or because of the historical abuses of the knights militant of the various church orders, but because I saw Paladins essentially as police—*as police have always been in my experience of police*, which is to say corrupt, cruel, and hypocritical.

Lately, I have come to regard Paladins as they would ideally be, holy protectors of Justice and everything Good. #ttRPG

There is no technology that can break the laws of physics. The problem with cars is that they go fast, they go far, and they can carry literally a ton of cargo. The availability of rapid transport over long distances of large masses with seeming no consequences caused us to built our lives as if the bill was never going to come due. Guess what? THE BILL IS DUE.

LRT: As a member of my municipal #government, I wholeheartedly endorse this message.

Municipal government is difficult and thankless work, made all the more difficult and thankless by people who demand their desires be fulfilled without regard to the impact the fulfillment of their desires would have on others in their community.

Everyone has an opinion, but Governing is a profession, not a lark. Good governance requires intelligence, wisdom, knowledge, curiosity, patience, and compassion.

@hrast@sunny.garden I don't really hate cars, per se. I hate what has been done to human civilization and the environment because people used cars to build a culture hostile to humanity. Like everyone else, I enjoy being able to go about my business easily and haul what I need to securely, without exposure to weather and undue exertion. I just disagree that a car is the most reasonable means of accomplishing that goal, instead of better #urbanism #architecture #planning #housing #sustainability #transit.

Every word of Prof. Murphy's presentation here is equally applicable to the US. Nine letters in three acronyms would utterly transform human civilization: #LVT #UBI #MMT. We could do this virtually overnight, if we could just convince people of the truth of how economies actually function. #economics #USpol #LandValueTax #SingleTax #UniversalBasicIncome #ModernMonetaryTheory #taxation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GonO5dEpnL8

@potterybyosa In my younger years, I was the purchasing manager for a fine artists' materials firm in Philadelphia, so I have a great interest in pigments and paintmaking. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, as I never knew about Carver's work in this area. I would love to visit the museum and see the exhibit in person.

@hrast@sunny.garden But even a single car cannot exist and be particularly useful without a vast network of infrastructure and logistics that becomes self-justifying. That's why people will say things, like, "But, I *have* to drive to work", when no, in fact, they do not. They are free to arrange their lives differently, to make different choices that would enable them to live comfortably and conveniently without cars. They just don't want to make those choices.

I'm going to make Rigatoni with meatballs and jarred sauce, tonight. The frozen meatballs I bought last week are actually pretty good. Definitely not as good as homemade, but for someone like me, who is absolutely NOT willing to make homemade meatballs, they are acceptable. I picked up a chunk of Grana Padano at the market on the way home from my meeting at the library to kick off the ebike lending library season. I can't afford Parmigiano-Reggiano, anymore, sadly.

' The Trump administration’s proposed new rules on gun ownership are intended to scare transgender people out of buying weapons, leading pro-Second Amendment activists say.

A new rule enacted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would mean all new gun owners must list their birth sex on mandatory purchase paperwork, even if they have legally or medically changed genders. '

' The disease is an economic system designed to concentrate wealth and power…justified by an economics that is at its core simply wrong, because it focuses the accumulation of wealth for a few with indifference to the consequence for most people.

That economics is wrong about human motivation, it is wrong about how money works, it is wrong about what government debt means, and it is wrong about scarcity, about markets, about value, and just about everything else. '

@hrast@sunny.garden I wouldn't say that a car is inherently bad. The thing is, though, there's no such thing as "just one car". We have well over 300 million of them in the US. When you criticize "cars", people have a tendency to conceptualize this as a criticism of *their car*, NOT "criticism of a society based upon a sense of entitlement to 350 million plus cars", and so they feel personally attacked and get defensive, rather than considering the argument as it really is, on its merits.
