@JorisMeys Linux Mint is a good choice, it runs well on old hardware and is an active distribution. By default it has a good variety of software but its not specifically aimed at children, it is safe for them though. It has a built in firewall that needs to be enabled. I would install Clam antivirus as well. After that it's just a matter of choosing and installing what software you want. There are specific educational distributions out there, such as Edubuntu, to consider. Edubuntu is active and like Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu which in turn is based on Debian. They're on Mastodon as well. @edubuntu I would be inclined to dual boot or run them in VMs to see how they perform for you. Apologies if you are already aware of the above.

@jaypeach53 @MarkHoltom why do you hate light posts so much, what did they ever do to you? This toot is brought to the Fedi by the Popular Front for Light Post Liberation. #StillHateThatcher #MargaretThatcher

@itsfoss I would like to see a folder for Audiobooks as well.

@EUCommission this is a good thing for the young people in the UK who wish to expand their potential by experiencing what the EU Member States and third countries associated with Erasmus+ have to offer. Hopefully young people from the other members will choose to come to the UK.

@tess_machling someone who is truly interested in archeological artifacts and their history wouldn't go to auction. If she needs the space why not donate her collection to a museum? Why does the article give away her location? Wilsden is a small village. I hope that she doesn't suffer a burglary because that could lead to the rest of her collection being melted down and lost for ever.

@Havoc_online@mastodon.social @FSonder@mastodon.ie but not Doom. I used to let Sprog 1 watch me play and occasionally take control. He told his aunt about nightmares he was having. She told her sister, his mother, my wife. I had a total ban for being what I thought was a good dad. #Doom #DadLevelOne

@davidallan@mastodonapp.uk We were at South Shields yesterday afternoon walking the dog along the beach. We saw a coastguard helicopter and two RNLI lifeboats, not sure if it was an actual rescue or a training exercise.

@ravensrod@mstdn.social @PGBeattie@mastodonapp.uk Amazon's offers and suggestions to me are mainly comical rather than sinister. Subscribe and save suggestion on hair dryers! Tommy Hilfiger clothing - I had to look him up. The only spam l get from Sainsbury's is the tinned variety, I have a dedicated e-mail address for them and so far only their genuine stuff comes into it.

@raph a literal demonstration of how and why it's OK to be against what is happening in Gaza, it doesn't automatically make you an anti-Semite. That there's an organisation with Arabs and Jews protesting gives a modicum of hope for future peace.

@gh05t @Gina I went from a OnePlus 8 Pro to a FP6 with e/OS. The biggest adjustment for me was getting used to a smaller screen. I don't find the hardware and OS problematic.

@megatronicthronbanks@mastodon.social @Havoc_online@mastodon.social @FSonder@mastodon.ie Thank you!!

@cockneylaurie@mastodonapp.uk I've done quite a lot in the air fryer, it does them well.

@schratze thank you. It was the right thing to say at the time and probably gave comfort as she died. It was nearly 18 years ago and I came to terms with it within a few weeks.

Well the laptop has arrived, nicely boxed and in one piece. At the moment she's resting in the corner warming up before first use. According to SWMBO I'm grinning like the proverbial Cheshire cat. #ArgonForty #RaspberryPi

This comes as no surprise. Last summer a friend who works for a national supermarket was being pressured to change contracts. The new contract would be for 16 hours a week with additional hours at the discretion of management. Apparently 16 hours would be below the threshold for NI to be paid. It would also mean a halfing of income and the need to pay voluntary contributions to protect pension rights. Was yesterday a turning point for socialist and left wing voters? #YourParty made a major step forward by getting it's CEC created. The #GreenParty comfortably won the Gorton and Denton by-election, congratulations to them.

At last a good news story. #IanHuntley #SohamMurders https://c.im/@BBC/116187306697794735

@Erased_Citizen definitely British, R. Sole and Rowntree confirm this.

@haveibeenpwned I'm not in this leak but I am in the MyFitnessPal leak from 2018... UnderArmour owned MyFitnessPal at that time. So does this count as a second strike against Under Armour?

@rolandmcs.bsky.social those people are constantly telling us that it is USA sovereignty that matters most

@azzageddi.myatproto.social "Reminder: "SF readers are all openminded" is a myth." So true, I quietly enjoy some of L. Ron Hubbard's SF books which has raised eyebrows. They have not yet convinced me to take up Scientology or anything else for that matter.

@FSonder@mastodon.ie this might be truthful. On my last few visit's to my local supermarket I have noticed disarray on the Cadbury's shelves and a distinct lack of Dairy Milk bars.

@BenartyComputer@mastodon.scot @MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk well that's the next best thing I suppose.

@MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk thanks for posting, I had forgotten that the Scottish had done the decent thing and abolished the bedroom tax.
