Similarly the EU has no problem with platforms releasing such data to European law enforcement, in fact they may even require backdoors for that purpose. They just don't want European citizens' data being mined by US entities or released to American law enforcement. #GDPR.

@FantasticalEconomics@mas.to I'm wondering if the plummeting of interceptions at the border are because they have stopped bothering to intercept. It makes numbers look good, like no one is cross, and provides fodder for ICE to arrest later. As it is projecting their current arrest rate to an annual number gives a number that is far lower than were ever stopped at the border in a year.

Large media orgs like the BBC could drive huge numbers of people to Mastodon and drive growth and engagement across the board. As it is I've seen little or anything of the BBC content I know and love - news, weather, etc. and the brand continues to get diluted by bots and scam accounts trading on the BBC name.

I find it crazy that even this privileged straight white cis-male has to think if their political and non-religious affiliations could lead to them being ejected from the country at some point. Then again if we really go down the metaphorical "road to Auschwitz" that neo-fascism represents I probably don't want to be here anyway.

@sarahtaber 3 million acre feet... Last time I checked California's Colorado River quota was about 4.4 million acre feet a year and 75% of that goes to agriculture. Arizona also has 2.8 maf. I think recent agreements will reduce that a bit (all the quotas add up to substantially more than the entire Colorado River flow). Then you hear how CA and AZ are growing alfalfa in the desert and sending it to Saudi Arabia to feed their cows in another desert. So yeah, lets just stop that!

@sarahtaber well it's good to know that only 15% is going over seas, and I get the keeping it local aspect for environmental reasons alone, let alone economic ones.
But even 15% would add up to as much water as Nevada takes from the Colorado River each year and we bend over backwards to conserve every last drop which is how the LV population has doubled in 20 years and total water use is down 20%.
Do we even need to raise cattle in CA in the first place?

The only thing you can hide is your identity which will be a lot easier to do if you aren't running your own instance unless you're doing something relatively complex to mask a personal instance's IP address. You'd also have to be very careful about what you post to ensure you don't leak any clues.

He has a deeply fucked up childhood, spent his life perpetually just avoiding bankruptcy often with huge help from the government. Attempts to appeal were rejected, I came to the conclusion their adjudicators were not too familiar with English. The gap between suggesting someone have some empathy for a violent act against another vs. making an actual personal threat of violence is a pretty large one - enough to drive a bus through.
I snapshoted the offending post, deleted it, and then posted the image and the Twitter complaint history.

It has also been pointed out they know that SCOTUS requires the census to include non-citizens. So he'll be forced to include all those imprisoned in his gulags, that's why they are located in Red States which will boost numbers in rural areas and decrease those of Blue States from which they were snatched.
It also gives them an excuse to find where non-citizens are living. Imagine ICE "helping" with the census going from door to door... "Papers please!"

@Gargron@mastodon.social so true - I worked at a VC funded startup and they let it go for two years with no interest in us making revenue. I was told by the founder this was common and gives VCs more leverage later. If you've created something good then you'll need more money to stay in business and they get more equity for continued funding because you're desperate. And if you're mediocre you're never going to be a great exit so they cut their losses and move on.
