@Eggfreckles@mastodon.mit.edu @flargh@mastodon.social Recently began shopping at Market Basket solely due to the nearest Hannaford closing and (soon to be) replaced by a Shaws. Agree that, despite the nonstop family-owned-business-nonsense-news over the years, Market Basket is the best around. I do miss the August lobster sales as low as $3.99/lb. years back yet it’s still the best option for now.

@leemoknows Instead I opted for a simple indoor antenna that provides 7 HD stations (the local network affiliates) and another 56 other SD stations. That's quite a bit of content for 0.00 dollars, as they say on the old-folk tee vee commercials. :)
I’m officially a cord-cutter many, many years after it came into vogue. All of my content is strictly OTA or from streaming services.
Me and my family will greatly miss decades of happily using #TiVo CableCard-based DVRs. As @siracusa@mastodon.social has lamented, paraphrasing, there’s really no good equivalent. Took a look at Channels but despite @caseyliss@mastodon.social being quite enthusiastic about it, it just seems like a little too fiddly (not to mention that it’s just another subscription cost).

@davew@mastodon.social It’s been a mixed bag for me but mostly leans towards success. :) As suggested above, maintaining context with the tools is the key factor.
Sometimes, responses to follow-up prompts often include snippets of code that, while correct, can sometimes be hard to see where they need to be applied as a change/addition/subtraction. I find myself prompting to, “Please provide the complete implementation with this update included.” and that (almost always) works.
It does feel magical,
though. 🪄

Unrelatedly related, in the excellent Triode app, I followed a similar approach by exploring the awesome “Our Picks” list of live streams first.
I only added my own streams, mostly live local terrestrial radio, after adding a bunch from your recommendations.

make me nuts. I’ve seen no issues like this with the Abbot Freestyle Libre sensors over the past two years. They also “eat shit” more often than one would expect from a US$200 million company – at least every three to four months one either won’t activate or quits before the normal expected lifetime of two-ish weeks.

Makes me wonder if public libraries, well known to have news periodicals, have access to such paywalled sites.
From the library perspective, shift funding from physical periodicals (as they slowly disappear) to digital offerings. From the publisher perspective, however, I suppose it’s, “Fuck you. Pay me.” for every individual user.

@leemoknows Weirdly, the app I am viewing OTA on a recent Sony Bravia TV running Google TV is labeled “Channels” but it doesn’t seem to be the https://getchannels.com app. That, as you infer, requires setting up a local server, i.e., the aforementioned fiddly part. How are you using Channels for over-the-air?

@MoritzBrouhaha@typo.social Sadly, this is the status quo with respect to optimizing for profit over usability. I agree with the essence of @mariejulien@mastodon.social’s comment above that, while it may impede those with assistive needs quite a bit more, it is a serious problem for all users.

whilst waiting for the replacement/return box to arrive. And then, you get a phone call a month later saying that they never received the defective device.

I’m saying this because today (really!) I replaced
my wife’s aging iPad Pro because it’s EOLed on iPadOS 16.7.12 and is basically useless for some apps and, yes, unusable performance-wise.
