@nixCraft@mastodon.social this might be where I'd ask for double my salary to come back and fix the mess.

How do I put these 5.25” floppy disks to work? I feel like I need some kind of computer from the 80s. But which one?
Boost for reach, please.

@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social this is the most useful information I've received all week. Thank you.
How macOS applications tell you there is an update:

"I mean, you can update if you want to..."

I am an engineer. I design chips for a living and right now I am specifically doing verification. By definition my job is not artistic in any way.
There are many among us who are true artists and specifically musicians, which is the kind of art that moves me the most. One such artist, Joshua Hyslop, is skilled with the ability to make guitars sing and chant cadences into my soul.
He’s coming out with a new album soon, so forgive me for oversharing when it does.
We just got back from a jaunt through the halls of RMRRF 2026!

@rootcompute@mastodon.social Agreed, and the perfect candidate for that in my mind is the Internet Archive. Like they don't even need to reinvent the wheel, there is already a service for it.
I’m taking my electric car on a mini road trip to Northern Colorado!
Nevermind this is because I didn’t book an appointment early enough at my local office to renew my drivers license before it expires.
There was one at a martial arts meet in Thorton, CO yesterday.

@silvermoon82 hmmm ok, my lack of understanding is apparent: if I buy a 5.25” drive, I would need an ISA or PCI controller card? Or are you suggesting I pull out a controller from somewhere else?
I watched a video of a guy in Sweden (if memory serves) who pulled the controller board out of a USB floppy drive and connected it to the floppy card edge of a 5.25 inch drive and could read data off a disk via USB.

Cool. Cool. Cool. Love this journey for us...

One of my friends said I should call this “RAID144” and I’m totally doing that from now on.

@kylew01@mastodon.social it's so strange, our peony bush will likely bloom next week...two months earlier than last year.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social Yep, same thing at my company.
It seems to be due to AI companies trying to make digital-god and they keep telling everyone they have.

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social @stux@mstdn.social the frustrating part is their base of voters here won't understand the cause, since their only news source: Fox News, won't ever tell them the truth. They've been indoctrinating them to disbelieve all other news sources since the 1980s.
I just finished watching “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die”. Great movie with dark humor, tongue in cheek references to zombie and slasher movies, and a strangely familiar reference to modern society similar to Black Mirror.

@manawyrm haha, fair enough. These Verbatim HD IBM formatted disks.
It would be great to use them for file storage, or anything else really.
I keep threatening to buy an Apple iic, which I don’t think can use these because of their formatting. So maybe a similar era device?

@JennyFluff that would be awesome, I thought Greaseweazles were read only though? I could be completely wrong though…
