Daniel Gibert
Graphic designer and illustrator sharing thoughts, drawings and other oddities. I like life weird and kind.
Firm believer of Terry Pratchett's "Militant decency" idea, trying to apply it in my life. Also in high regard of kindness.
He/Him as default, but feel free to use They/Them if you prefer not to gender tag people. It is not only about my choices, but yours too.
Note: this is an actively safe account for all who need safe places.
I just made this silly but accurate thing. I'm silly too and i love it, but also i'm serious in my silliness.
The Combat Coffee Maker mark I. This is a 2023 old one I don’t know if I showed it here before. Really like silly machines. And I like blueprints. #illustration #drawing #blueprint #machine #robot #mastoart #mastoartist #handdrawn
Reading about @pluralistic@mamot.fr "Tron-pilled" concept, it links with a though I had recently.
Tron was based on the obsolete concept of mainframes, with Master Control server owning all the work and users using just a dumb terminal to access their code. An era that ended with the PC giving power to users.
Now, with AI, streaming, cloud computing, GPU/RAM hoarding, datacenters… It is just an scheme to return to the mainframe concept for modern times. You own nothing. Companies control/own all again.
Before and after. Sometimes I really do love my work. Not always, but sometimes. It is nice to give kids a bit of humanisation on this dull hospital waiting rooms. They love to search the characters (there is a panel with all 53 characters to search for) #illustration #GraphicDesign
Going back home from a meeting in an electric bus so so so new that it still smells to just unwrapped plastic. Nice and silent drive.
It took me more than an hour, but I tamed chaos in the mail inbox after two stressful weeks. So now I just discovered that I have 14 work orders to accomplish in the next two weeks.
Again… what are those mythical "holidays" you are all talking about?
Don't become a freelancer, kids!
This is easy and silly but for my work it opens a lot of doors for quicker and better design. A variable font that generates charts through ligatures! And work flawlessly on Affinity! Now i can easily add simple charts middle paragraph!
Hi, kids. Learn you cinematographic terms, before entering an online flame war…
Adapted from: It takes the original source, and applies the needed changes to make it work on cinema medium.
Based on: It takes the concept and story as a foundation and builds its own version around it.
Inspired by: It takes the bare minimum to call it the thing, invents the rest.
Also, better if you don't enter an on-line flame war. It is not worthy. Don't feed the trolls.
Les Jours Tristes, by Yann Tiersen, was already a piece I love, but that I only knowed on the instrumental version. Just discovered the original with lyrics and is touching me very deep inside, specially this days that i'm invested heavily in wasteness and tiresommnes. It reflects my inner thoughts very well but at the same time is a reaffirming piece, sad but encouraging.
WTF!!!! Now to export a Powerpoint presentation to PDF I must allow the "connected experiences" (aka copilot)???? Why the hell do I need an on-line AI to export ato PDF?
Nevermind, I just will use print to pdf on the MacOS, but FFS Microslop!!!!!!
I hate Powerpoint. Must use it because of my clients and I almost master it, but I hate it.
Almost all AIs can pass the Turing test nowadays. Problem is: Turing test does not evaluate if a machine can think like a human, or be creative, or intelligent. Turing test evaluate if a machine can generate human like answers that can blindly convince an evaluator more than 70% of the time over 5 minute periods. Just that. The test never intended to demonstrate real intelligence, but imitation of human speech. In fact, it doesn't evaluate if answers are correct or not, just if it pass as human.
I’m giving my wife a loving good night kiss while I’m listening on the headphones to the most disturbing, sinister and uncanny piece from Wendy Carlos unused soundtrack for The Shining movie.
Yup. I’m weird and proud of it.
Just learned about NickelMenu mod and added a quick Dark Mode toggle menu to my Kobo e-reader (and other useful menus, like refresh screen and free memory) and it is a delightful tiny silly improvement!
Now I can change screen mode without navigating three levels of settings.
