Today we announce a next step in our transition to open research information: CWTS will discontinue the use of Web of Science data, both in the Leiden Ranking and in the services that we offer to external organisations.
This step aligns with our work towards open research information, notably in our focal area Information & Openness, the Open Edition of our Leiden Ranking, and the @BarcelonaDORI@mastodon.social that we co-initiated.
🎓 Last Thursday, Dr. @Aschniedermann@fediscience.org successfully defended his PhD thesis at Leiden University. Congratulations on this achievement! 🥂
🔎 For his dissertation, Alexander studied reporting guidelines in biomedical research, showing how scholarly communication is standardized in this field. Supervised by @sarahderijcke@social.cwts.nl, Paul Wouters and Wolfgang Kaltenbrunner.

Taking Dryad as a case for analysis, the preprint explores how open data infrastructures reconfigure relationships and practices to support long-term sustainability.

🏛️ Last week, Andy Stirling visited CWTS to mark the start of his visiting professorship at our institute. He stayed for four days full of presentations and meetings, including an applied research lab introducing the method of multicriteria mapping (MCM), and a key note on the topic of 'Opening up and closing down'.

🏛️ On 14 November 2025, an international community convened in Pisa, Italy, to advance coordinated reform in publishing and research assessment.
Co-hosted by @ASAPbio@mas.to, CWTS, @DORAssessment@mastodon.world, and the International Science Council, the meeting marked an important step in building momentum toward a more coordinated and impactful approach to reform across research assessment and publishing.
