„Have you developed some tools?“

Today I had the pleasure to meet interesting people from all around the #NFDI at the 4th NFDI Berlin-Brandenburg network meeting (https://events.hifis.net/event/3380/).
The event was about #provenance and #reproducibility and people represented diverse fields, spanning astronomy, medicine, chemistry and history.

I am always impressed by the wealth of practical solutions and tools, e.g., to document workflows and create metadata. I too enjoy coding, but sticking to the critical discussion is definitely a comfort zone in sociology…

PS thanks @wikimediaDE@social.wikimedia.de for hosting the event. Sitting on a wooden box and having some mate is the most Berlin thing I have done recently…

Is anyone else here going to attend the #FOR2026 „The Future of Open Research. Reliable, Equitable, Responsible“ Conference in Munich? The program looks very interesting. A lot of #OpenScience practitioners and visionaries but also critics, accounts from the #ScienceStudies etc.

I am already getting hyped.

Team: Dr Clemens Blümel; Dr. Judith Hartstein; Nathalie Schwichtenberg; Alexander Schniedermann. Kontakt: schniedermann@dzhw.eu

🔥🔥🔥

Someone from a large science publishers just put #diamondoa and transformative agreements side-to-side in a talk at #FOR2026. There was no love for this talk and a lot of enthusiasm for #DOA …

Replying to
@sascha_wolfer definitiv.

"we speak a secret language"

Do we hide behind jargon in #sts ? What a great first day at #STSNL26 the first STS conference of dutch WTMC. Our deep dive on science reform and metascience reminds us to be self-reflective and critical of our own field.

@chartgerink@akademienl.social I bet that some would demand painfully exact and overwhelmingly significant data that unmistakably supports this statement.

Replying to
@vtraag As far as I got it, and please correct me if I am wrong, proper statistical analysis should always include causal analysis. In practice however, this has mostly been more of a causal/assumptive/theory-guided muddling through, rather than a systematic approach, as suggested by causal analysis.

Replying to
@vtraag that is very interesting and adds important nuance to the roles of journal/editorial practices. However, I am curious what the causal analysis really adds here. Can’t you just say that the two independent variables, rigor and open data are correlated and thus less relevant (as in Multocolinearity)?

Honestly, what do we do about scholars who announce the publication of their recent paper on email lists?

These spammers drive me crazy and I consider it as a digital version of the #TragedyOfTheCommons

An everyday lesson about #classification taught by #DeutscheBahn. Breakage was turned into an abstract category that can be assigned irrespective of what broke, even if it is obvious.

Replying to
@brembs@mastodon.social That does not sound good. Though, the editor has some authority over the process, e.g., deciding whether the review is adequate or exaggerating, at least in my experience (social science). But just ignoring the review altogether is not justifiable. Do you consider any steps?
