We need to decouple from the US with haste, they will seed the worst elements among our populations to enforce their far-right agenda. The longer they are treated as trusted the more damage they will do.
An AI swarm taking down the internet is the worst thing these tech bros can imagine while they actively implement surveillance capitalism that guarantees the destruction of our social fabric for the profit of megalomaniacs
Many people can spot propaganda via omission when they've been shown a clear example
ie. what is purposefully left out.
But how it really works is what they ignore, moderation on large social platforms, the classification of punishment and the shaping and banning, it acts like a filtration system for American exceptionalism. Anti western narratives are punished harsher. Less opposition voices create the exact echo chamber information environment that makes direct propaganda more effective.

Creating polarized extremes for you to choose from muddies all the problems in the middle ground that you or I identify. It serves to push the inevitability of the tech they want you to swallow and the surveillance you must now just accept.
Example of weaponized fear and cognitive dissonance, this allows your brain to very simply identify there is a concerted media effort or influence campaign at play.
Russia is simultaneously collapsing and completely losing their war in Ukraine, while they are preparing to invade and start another front somewhere in NATO. From the same media sources.
Neither of these things can be true at the same time, ask yourself what is the implications of these narratives and what purpose are they serving.

The fascism we are entering scares me, no longer will influence campaigns involve large scale media or centralized trust... there will still be that at some level but we are moving towards something newly terrifying: Personalized psyops.
We are facing potential of mass-scale influence operations but with individual-scale adaptation. Extended profiling is part of what happens with further AI adoption and integration into day to day life. A sufficiently data-rich system has more levers...

To be more secure in the tech space, generally means isolation and monitoring, think for example standalone servers vs shared server hosting or network isolation etc). Billionaires exist because they equate isolated financial independence as security.
To be more secure in the real world we need the opposite, a collective sense of community where people look out for and support each other, lifting the baseline for everyone is how we all win, ensuring everyone has what they need reduces crime

@JimBliss@mastodon.ie we've given the platforms basically free reign to abuse, from more subtle algorithmic abuse to straight up not maintaining a level of care and safety for ads.
Protecting children means creating the right kind of controlled environment for them to thrive in, educating them, removing the toxicity through enforced safety procedures etc.
It is not the same thing as blocking access entirely and assuming they won't find any other way to communicate. Gonna stop them gaming for example?

It's also worth pointing out how much prominent media has rotating doors with the very same ivy leagues. Money and power makes for better agents of influence and more flexibility to experiment
