Incredible scenes at the #Eurovision this year.
There's never been a result like it... a five-way tie!
Congratulations to Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Slovenia and Netherlands. All worthy winners of #Eurovision2026
Philosopher, psychoanalyst, former industrial engineer. Writes words and code. Very occasionally makes music.
GenX, gamer, and very left wing. He / Him. "They" is fine too.
On the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. At the intersection between anarchism, socialism, and despair.
"Everyone's lost but me."

My Mum, who has zero interest in football, just sent me a text... "that's what you get when you play golf with Trump".
Awww. Not Sam Neill. He's been one of my favourite actors ever since I saw Wim Wenders' Until The End of The World back at the start of the 1990s.
I don't think I've ever been disappointed in one of his performances (even if the film itself wasn't great).
And while I never met him, he seemed like a genuinely lovely man, too.
R.I.P Sam.
Two true things:
1. The outrage about the treatment of the flotilla activists by the State of Israel is entirely justified.
2. That there seems to be more outrage about the treatment of the flotilla activists than about the torture and mass murder of Palestinians is reprehensible.
This line from The Expanse has started to leap unbidden to my mind when I read the news these days.
Micheál Martin: Ireland needs to work towards energy independence. That's why we need to consider nuclear.
Me (a fool): But why not concentrate on renewables? We don't have any uranium mines here, Micheál... so we'd just be switching one imported fuel for another...
Micheál Martin (a smart man): Bah! Details!
I don't drink very much. Prefer my altered states to be herbally instigated as a rule. But this is definitely the sort of evening for a couple of cold pints of stout and a bowl of chips in the beer-garden of my local.
So yeah, cheers for now!
The Journal, The Irish Mirror, The Irish Examiner, The Irish Independent... they *all* illustrate the story about the Met Éireann 'heat warning' with a photo of people having fun on the beach or by the sea front. The Irish Times uses a looping video of people frolicking in the water.
RTÉ uses a photo of someone watering their garden (to reference the government hosepipe ban) so I guess they are *slightly* better today.
1/4
Having no skin in the game this tournament, it would have been nice to see Mbappe lift the World Cup just to piss off that racist Paraguayan senator. Looks unlikely now though.

'Remain In Light' is probably my favourite album of all time.
I'd always loved it and then I listened to it on a Walkman in the desert during one of the most intense psychedelic experiences of my life. It burrowed deep into my psyche.
What it *means* though is utterly ineffable. And I'm glad David Byrne feels the same way about it :)
"Bringing facts to a social media argument" is the modern equivalent of "bringing a knife to a gun fight".
In case anyone is unaware, I'd just like to point out that Last Action Hero is one of the greats of American cinema. I will brook no argument.
Now, off to bed.
The International Olympic Committee voted to re-admit Russia. FIFA is considering doing the same with the Russian national team and Russian clubs. UEFA is happy to allow Israel to play in their tournaments and the FAI (Football Association of Ireland) has just voted to go-ahead and play their Nations League matches against Israel.
Is it just me, or is everyone involved in sports governance a moral vacuum in a suit. Not shred of human decency between them.
When did we get so lost?
Dude from Microsoft predicts that in 18 months all "white collar jobs" will be done by AI.
Dude from Google gives speech to a bunch of college students in which he says how awesome AI is.
Google dude is confused about why he gets booed.
Google dude is a fucking idiot.
I've never been into #Eurovision but my wife has loved it her whole life. She skipped it last year and will be doing so again this year.
If she can do it, so can you.
As an Irish football fan, it'll be my turn to make a (tiny) sacrifice later this year.
I don't think just boycotting the Israel game(s) is enough though. If the #FAI insist on playing the matches, I won't be following the entire Nations League campaign.
Now apply it to everything else, Emily, and you'll have learnt something.

News outlets should mandate stories about "smart glasses" should have the phrase "pervert glasses" in the headline or opening paragraph.
So: "Google to release first pervert glasses since Google Glass flop"
Also, they should illustrate the story with a photo of a geezer in a dirty raincoat.
