A quick internet search tells me you can still buy these things, which I am happy about.

When I know you're not around

Woody Guthrie - So Long, Its Been Good To Know Yuh (Dusty Old Dust)
A dust storm hit, an' it hit like thunder;
It dusted us over, an' it covered us under;
Blocked out the traffic an' blocked out the sun,
Straight for home all the people did run,
Singin':
CHORUS:
So long, it's been good to know yuh;
So long, it's been good to know yuh;
So long, it's been good to know yuh.
This dusty old dust is a-gettin' my home,
And I got to be driftin' along.

@mike@social.chinwag.org @piepants@famichiki.jp I used to love mobile phones. Getting a new one was great because you were excited to see what games and ringtones it had, rather than checking to see what bloat and rubbish you had to disable and uninstall.

Deep in the pandemic, though spared the worst of it in North Queensland, trying to provide cancer care with reduced staff and a deep fear for the future. This came on ABC one evening and struck a chord with me.

Mid-late 20s. Living on my own after the breakup of my first big significant relationship. Used to spend Saturday afternoons in the West End of Glasgow buying CDs. Got a copy of "Chet Baker Sings" and put it on that evening. When I got to this track I realised I may not be as settled in my single life as I thought I was, and found myself in floods of tears. (I had listened to a Chet Baker CD a lot with my ex)
I Get Along Without You Very Well - Chet Baker
I get along without you very well,
Of course I do,
Except when soft rains fall
And drip from leaves, then I recall
The thrill of being sheltered in your arms.
Of course, I do.
But I get along without you very well.
I've forgotten you just like I should,
Of course I have,
Except to hear your name,
Or someone’s laugh that is the same,
But I've forgotten you just like I should.

@frogglin@theblower.au I took my oldest child to see the Wiggles there over ten years ago.
I am reminiscing about how much better the Wiggles were back then, so am also definitely old.

This was the standout track from a great album in early 2001. Later that year, as military action followed terrorism, the tune, and it's name, took on a deeper meaning.
I remember seeing Mogwai in Glasgow in late 2005, shortly before I left the country. That year had seen relationship breakdowns, family illness and death. This tune started, I looked at my brother, he looked at me. We'd been through a lot and now I was moving to the other side of the planet. Still miss having him close.

I'm late to this but wanted to put this one on. A poignant song about the working class history of Lanarkshire.
De Rosa - Hattonrigg Pit Disaster
"The masters living life on a plate.
Us bastards digging and letting ourselves be tools to other's ends.
Hattonrigg Pit disaster nineteen ten.
We've come a long way since then."

Actually, this doesn't even look like an EB6. It wouldn't have had a Bigsby tremolo.
It looks like an #ai_slop picture of Jack Bruce holding a Gibson SG.
The kind of inaccuracy that shows why this technology is worse than useless.
It's disrespectful to the late artist and to the photographers whose work was cribbed and aggregated for this.
Makes a mockery of the left-leaning political positions this account seems to support.

@tc_morekindness@c.im thank you.
To be honest, the place I was working and the specialty I was working in meant I had it relatively easy.
Those people working in Emergency and in Intensive Care had an unbelievably traumatic time - many will be suffering still.
A year or so later, I had a visit from an old friend who told me that lockdowns were a waste of time, mask wearing was silly, the vaccines didn't work and all the people who died from COVID had pre-existing conditions.
That's an ex-friend now.

Storm Queen - Grace Cummings
Townes Van Zandt
Took a hold of my hand
So I wouldn't feel alone
I just can't feel alone
It could be
A creation of my own
So I don't feel so alone
I just can't feel alone
It's the time for life
Not dying, dying
Your hand inside mine, mine
Is like a country tune

Always amazes me not only how expensive healthcare is in the USA, but also what poor value "consumers" get.

@Natasha_Jay I think this is important for doctors in primary care to think about.
My impression is - PSA is an imperfect tool in prostate diagnosis and management, even in cis men on no hormonal agents.
For individuals on any form of hormonal therapy, the results need an interpretation specific to the context.
I have had patients on androgen blockers like finasteride or dutasteride who have developed prostate cancer with low PSAs. I've also had patients with hypogonadism who have developed prostate cancer in the context of a very low testosterone, also with a low PSA.
My view is that anyone on any form of hormonal therapy should be guided more by trends in PSA than by single values.

Very similar thing happening in Victorian state election here. Again, electoral commission can't do anything as no specific rules have been broken.

@koosli@aus.social moved to Melbourne from Queensland in 2023 and could not believe the heating bills.
We changed the ducted gas heating to electric, then got solar panels, then changed to an electric water heater, then changed the gas cooktop.
Expensive, but it didn't feel like throwing money away, which is the feeling you get from paying bills.
Poorly insulated 80s house with terrible windows still meant we fell short of "cosy".

Why is Jack Bruce, the famous bassist, playing a guitar here?
Silly question - I checked the alt text and it let me know this was an AI picture.
What rubbish.

Released in 1991, with lyrics in English and in Gumatj, a dialect of the Yolngu language spoken in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, where most of the band are from.
The song was released to draw attention to the lack of a treaty between indigenous Australians and the Australian government - something previous prime minister Bob Hawke had said would happen by 1990.

The idea that trans women don't get prostate cancer at all is wrong and potentially very damaging.

Also referenced by The Black Crowes on the cover of their album "Three Snakes And One Charm", which contained the hit single "One Mirror Too Many" although apart from that I can't remember much about it.

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
Moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried
Sang along, who'd blame them?
You're grown (you're grown up)
So grown (so grown up)
Now I must say more than ever
(Come on Eileen)
Toora loora toora loo rye ay
And we can sing just like our fathers
Come on Eileen, oh I swear what he means
At this moment, you mean everything
You in that dress, my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty, ah, come on Eileen
