@aholtzma@mstdn.ca @azonenberg@ioc.exchange @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems I am deeply uncomfortable knowing that there is flux trapped underneath SMD resistors and capacitors that I have no way of cleaning out. I comfort myself with the idea that assembly houses have some magic vapour cleaning thingy that can get it out, and if this isn't true then I will be sad, and will need to concoct some scheme to solder without flux in a glovebox or something.

@whitequark Australia also makes you get a medical examination and chest x-ray, and wants to know whether you are likely to incur medical expenses above some threshold. It always seemed odd to me that a society would make it illegal to discriminate based on age, health, disability, ethnicity, relationship status etc. and at the same time have an immigration system that is openly designed to discriminate mercilessly based on exactly these things.

@whitequark My assumption is that they would really like to discriminate based on these things all the time and everywhere (and ofc they do), but they are slightly ashamed of this most of the time, just for some reason not in airports, they are mega proud of it there.

I did some low current stuff but only prototypes and so I just bent the low-current pins up in the air so PCB leakage didn't matter. I never figured out how to clean things well enough to be as good as new, so if I touched the op-amp, I had to replace it with a new one.

@mansr@society.oftrolls.com @SteveBellovin@infosec.exchange @joebeone@techpolicy.social I think some audio ADC/DAC chips implement a hardware digital lowpass filter with ~22kHz cutoff and no obvious means to disable it, (at least on the ADC side), making the 192kSPS sample rate less useful. I'd like to know which ones don't filter.
