I just updated the page for the runestone U 778 with a tracing of the inscription. It takes me too much time to do these by hand. It can be a bit meditative though.
I received some good news today. I passed the course on viking age runestones in Norway and Denmark at Stockholm University.
I just got back home after an all day trip around lake Mälaren on my motorcycle. I stopped west of Västerås to visit the runestones Vs 9 and Vs 10. They are pair stones raised next to a bridge.
Vs 10 only has ornamentation in form of an intricate rune animal, with no runes at all.
Vs 9 is bigger and has runes in a band on the front. In the middle at the top is a cross. It is raised by Gisl, who made a bridge in memory of his son Ösrl who died in England. The inscription ends with a christian prayer.
Transliteration of the runes:

Normalization:
Gisl let gærva bro æftiʀ Asl/Ôsl, sun sinn. Hann varð dauðr a Ænglandi. Guð hialpi hans and ok selu.
Translation:
Gísl had the bridge made in memory of Ásl/Ôsl, his son. He died in England. May God help his spirit and soul.
I’m doing a disinfection boil on my brew system in preparation for the brew day. Hopefully my brother will visit and help out with the brewing. Today’s brew will be a smash lager with Swedish malt and a recently rediscovered Swedish hop variety.
It won’t be a regular lager, but I’m hoping it will be tasty at least.
It’s been a year since the 25th anniversary book about the Swedish RPG website and forum Rollspel.nu was released. I haven’t been involved in the site since 2011, but it’s still going strong. I read a few chapters before it was published, but I just bought my own copy.
It’s crazy that a site I started 25 years ago is still running, and that they’ve published a book about themselves. They even received an award for best RPG related book by the Swedish RPG magazine Fenix.
My favorites in the book is the early history of the site told as a saga by @martinackerfors@mastodon.social and the story by the prolific Swedish RPG author Anders Blixt about how the site was his connection to Sweden when he was stationed in Afghanistan. I choked up when he told me that story in person a few years ago.

I’ve leveled up my espresso game. I just made my own brew water from distilled water and the same minerals I use for homebrewing. I can’t say I can taste the difference though. But at least the espresso machine won’t need to be descaled as often.
I’m going to try different water recipes as well, maybe others will improve the taste.
I’m trying to figure out how Davinci Resolve works to start making some videos. I haven’t even started adding anything to the timeline yet, as I’m having trouble understanding how to work with the media tab. I have managed to create a video with it before, but I’ve forgotten everything. This is going to take a while.
I've made another update of my runestone website. It is now backed by a data file making it a lot easier to add new pages.
I also added a few new pages, and updated some pages with new photos and texts.
Among the new and changed pages are: Sö 338, GR 1, N A222, DR 271, U 1125, U 785, U 778, Sö 96.
Unfortunately I also had to scale down photos as bots are wasting my resources. I'm now above the free tier for the outgoing data transfer, so I might have to start paying or they'll shut down the site.
I’ve updated my runestone website and added scanned 3D models to some pages.
One of the stones with a 3D model is the runestone U 1125 which has an inscription in elder futhark and ornamentation of a person holding up their hands. There is also an inscription on one if the back sides that can be viewed by rotating the model on the page.
I’ve also restructured the pages so it will be easier to add new runestones. And I added a Swedish version of the site where I plan to post a few longer descriptions.
That feeling when you can’t remember where you’ve deployed an application and need to search for it.

The base model is the Prusacaster by Mikolas Zuza. And printed the parts updated 2025 by medienlampe. The base guitar kit with the neck and all hardware is the Harley Benton T-style DIY kit sold by Thomann.

I’m in Uppsala at a full day conference on runestones from Småland. There have been two talks heavy on place names and personal names. The first talk of the afternoon is about the runes “rufRa” on the runestone Sm 93 from Nömme.
I just sent in a paper on the two runestones DR 271 Tullstorp and N A222 Ervik for the course in viking runes in Norway and Denmark. They are pretty different, one is a big standing stone with beautiful ornamental images, and the other is a small stone that is completely covered with runes.

Since the kit also includes a wood body, I’m now thinking of buying additional parts and create another guitar with it.

@orsinium@fosstodon.org I don’t think anybody knows what the rune animals on runestones depict. There are a few that have other elements that make it possible to interperet those ones as Fenrir, like Tulltorpsstenen. But those ones don’t have the intricate tentacle patterns.
My current consultancy assignment is ending in May, so I’m going to need to find something new from June.
I’m based in Stockholm, and I’d prefer to work with Rust programming. If you know have any leads, please let me know.
I’ve bought a 4-bay NAS with a 10 TB disk, and a 1 TB NVME drive. I’ve also added three 2 TB disks I had available. I think I have to buy a second NVME disk to get read/write cache. I’ve RAIDed two of the small disks to use for automatic backups.
I finally have all runestone raw videos in one place. It’s 1.1 TB in total. Now I don’t have any excuses to start editing the videos.

@burningTyger I’m no musician, but the crappy electronics in the kit is probably the main issue. The plastic might deform over time due to the pressure of the strings.

@klausman All of the components are pretty cheap as well, except for the sound system. The 3D printed body might stretch under pressure though, but if that happens I can print a new one! :)

@jpetazzo This looks really cool! It reminds me of when a friend of mine and I started tinkering with adding ambient background sounds based on monitoring data. Like the sounds from a jungle. During normal operations it would just blend into the background, but if there is something wrong there’s more intrusive sounds. Our theory was that you would learn how the machine normally sounds and immediately know when something’s wrong.
I’ve also made monitoring as a serene fish tank screensaver, but it is not as sophisticated as this.
Do we know who’s directing the new reboot yet? And did Kubrick give his blessing to this new version of his greatest work?

@orsinium Just give me real film reels and real film cutter, it would probably be easier. :) I’ve even worked building TV video editing tools and I still can’t get my head around it.
I’ve updated my privacy centric email alias service Spicyham to support the email provider Migadu. This means I can finally move my last domain away from Gandi.
I also spent some time modernizing the code and make it look a bit prettier..
I’m ar Överselö Church on the island Selaön in lake Mälaren. There are six runestones here by the church. One of them, Sö 207, mentions travels to England. It has been attributed to the rune carver Balle, though there is no signature. A large part of the inscription is missing, as the left side of the stone has broken off.
The day started off very sunny, but now it has started to rain. I’m trying to wait it out under a tree and having a snack. I still have five more stones to photograph.
