I've recently been working with a large, legacy codebase written in an older language with very limited capabilities. It's in this case that I've found LLMs to be extraordinarily useful in handling the tedious work involved. But it's also got me thinking about why I haven't found the need to generate #Clojure code, and I suspect it's because by the time I've figured out what I want, it's easier to write it in Clojure than to explain it in English. 1/2

I've just released Capra 0.1.0, a Ring adapter (i.e. a webserver) written entirely in #clojure. It has competitive performance with Java webservers and supports HTTP/1.1 with WebSocket support planned soon. https://github.com/weavejester/capra

I've released TeensyP 0.7.0, a non-blocking TCP server for #clojure, available at: https://github.com/weavejester/teensyp

I've been making quite a few changes on TeensyP as part of my work on Capra, a new Ring adapter for HTTP 1.x that's written entirely in Clojure.

Had a great time at #clojuredays. Some very interesting talks, an excellent venue, good food and of course great company.

I've been testing out Claude as a debugging aid recently. It's pretty good at catching basic mistakes or typos, and has been able to suggest leads on some thorny race conditions and performance issues.

However, it's also made a number of errors itself - it's not a substitute for thinking through a problem.

I've just released Ring-Content-Encoding 0.1.0, a Ring middleware library for #clojure that handles various types of modern content encoding. This functionality may be already covered by your reverse proxy or CDN, but if not, or if you want more control, there's some middleware for it now. https://github.com/ring-clojure/ring-content-encoding

Just released Medley 1.10.0. Medley is a lightweight #clojure library that contains functions "missing" from clojure.core.

This release adds support for Clojure CLR and two new functions: map-padded and sequence-padded.

Is there any reason for a new web server to support HTTP/1.0 these days?

I've created a Homebrew tap to install the #clojure code formatter, cljfmt:

brew install weavejester/brew/cljfmt

Just spent an hour wrestling with snap, the alt #ubuntu package manager, which suddenly decided it wanted to install software from the beta channel instead of the stable channel. I only managed to get it working by explicitly specifying the revision numbers.

@muep It was done that way to maintain backward compatibility with earlier versions of Ring. Form parameters are a difficult compromise because while parameter names are not required to be unique, in practice it's quite rare to use duplicate names, as its usually better to use explicit IDs than rely on implicit ordering for identification.

Replying to
@iamnmm@mastodon.social I don't think I'd currently trust any AI with code changes, even with tests, unless it was a throwaway script with easily verifiable output.

Replying to
@plexus@toot.cat My experience is that LLMs are most useful for tasks that are trivially verifiable. I tend to use them for small, one off scripts or for searching through documentation. I haven't found them that useful for debugging, except as a rubber duck.
