TIL that “Cirencester”, the English town, is not contracted in speech like all the other -cesters. Nope they pronounce every syllable. Siren. Ces. Ter.
Not today and probably not tomorrow but one day England will pay for its myriad crimes.
Good morning partypeople

A few weeks ago we noticed yet-to-open #peonies (genus #Paeonia ) in the backyard. Guess what?
They're all over the neighborhood now. Turns out they're Spouse's favorite flower—a bit of luck for us that doubtless portends even bigger and better luck.

#Lilac bush (genus #Syringa ). This pic is from a few weeks back. It never fully bloomed, probably because of the mid-month cold snap. Other lilacs in the neighborhood bloomed earlier and really pumped out their fragrance. Looking forward to next year's display. Good morning partypeople.

Last weekend we were out on a stroll. We got as far as the end of the block when we saw two butterflies flyin' around. We stopped to take a photograph of them and a neighbor, inspired by us, went for it too. We chatted with her. When the neighborhood turkey came up, she told us she knew her as Mabel, & we told her we saw a drawing of her on someone's porch calling her Thelma. I don't feel so bad that I never got around to picking out a name for her, as she doesn't need 100 when 99 will do.
We continued on our way, made it one more block, when who should appear in the intersection? Three guesses. Oh yes, partypeople: Thelma herself. We waved our arms to warn an approaching car, and once she was out of harm's way, we snapped some shots.
On our way back, we just bumped into her at the same corner. This time we were on her side of the street. And that's how Spouse managed to get such a magnificent close-up.

suicide mention, lynching
A young Black woman named Tonea Nicole Miller was found hanging from a tree in Miami last week, having traveled down there from Michigan. The um local constabulary are trying to call it a suicide. I mean, no.
There is no reporting on this except for the Black paper in Miami.

From the link:
Q: Do you have a favorite hellstrip you've seen?
A: Yes, I just revisited it a few weeks ago. It was designed by Lauren Springer Ogden, who wrote the book's preface and came up with the term hellstrip. It's 800 feet long and is at The Gardens on Spring Creek, a public garden in Fort Collins, Colo. It's glorious. You could spend days there learning things. I highly recommend people go there and check it out.

Ok I'm gonna biggup Paraguay, one of my favorite teams just because in Paraguay almost everyone can understand the big native language, Guaraní, as well as Spanish, and the players speak it on the field to confound their Spanish-speaking opponents.
So congratulations to Paraguay! ¡Enhorabuena!

work stuff (annoying)
Random work slack question: what would you put in a 1000-year time capsule?
People think that’s just a normal question? Like we’re gonna be around in 1000 years? Like no one would ask that unless it never occurred to them we likely won’t. Do most people go around like this?

@Seandar16@dice.camp Ok just gonna say it. When I was growing up, "the Great Northeast" (as my mom called it) and South Philly seemed to be so different, that your move kinda shocked me at first. But I haven't been back in years, and I hear South Philly has changed a lot.

@Sharksonaplane@mastodon.sandwich.net The French wiki for the son doesn’t agree. The president has apparently been in Geneva for weeks, and yeah he’s 93, but the last time he was in Geneva for weeks he came back. So. I guess he’s not dead until they start fighting over the throne. Bonne chance, Cameroun!

Lotsa people (well my mother-in-law) dislike a #blueJay ( #CyanocittaCristata ) but not me, certainly biased due to my adolescent fandom of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club.
I filtered the hell out of the first photo because it was severely disadvantaged by my vantage (other side of a distant dirty window); forgive me M. Daguerre.

For the most part my since-college insomnia has been under control in recent years but every now and then…
Last night the bedroom breaker tripped. Weird because we usually run the a/c and the fan and the air filter without issue, but last night just the a/c. Eventually at 2:15 I woke up as a consequence—no way to know when it tripped because there’s no power-connected clock in that room. Went down to the basement and flipped the breaker. But couldn’t get back to sleep for at least an hour.
So here I am at work, exhausted and panicked at the same time.
Idk if most people feel panic under such circumstances. I generally do and it’s one of my least favorite states.
Spouse & I did get some good photos from the weekend which I’ll post once I have time to write the text and alt text.
