@CiaraNi@mastodon.green I'm with you with the omission of the word "crisis" and sure, we should use any means to bring it up. But the focus on the environment instead of climate isn't nuance, it brings back the attention where it should be: the environmental movement was concerned with forest, fauna, sea. Material things destroyed by behaviour we can change. The use of climate has been a deliberate choice to shift the attention to a nebulous system we can affect but can't control, thus easier to dismiss.

@CiaraNi@mastodon.green I use environmental or ecological breakdown/collapse. I stopped to use "climate" because 1) climate is one of the planetary systems 2) it's one of the most complex systems, and impossible to govern 3) the major driver is the destruction of the land/water environment due to anthropogenic activity, from extractive industry to constant urbanisation. Point 3 is the part of the discourse directly dependent on our action: we can't control the rain, but we can avoid wiping out another forest.
I find particularly curious that the call "let's free technology" comes from the same person who wrote that "information doesn't want to be free", arguing exactly that 'wants' and 'freedom' are a human thing, and 'information' isn't a being, therefore it cannot want anything and has no concept of 'freedom'

I know the world might be ending in few hours, but Witch Hat Atelier anime is now finally live. The manga is so far a jewel of art, storytelling, and world-building, exploring magic (equivalent of our technology), ethics, friendships, power structure, inequalities, and the interrelations between the personal and the political. It's amazingly inclusive and extremely collaborative. Really worth your time.

Yesterday has been a great day: first, the referendum in Italy, then this landed in my inbox: "Proceedings Cumulus Nantes 2025 NOW ONLINE".
I have a short paper in it about a topic I hold dear: Ethics.
The title is "Information as an Experience: A Visual Design Approach to Ethics for Building Relationships between Researchers and Participants" and it's about design, research, and what "getting informed" actually means.

@aral the stereotype of "evil white colonizer" is particularly laughable, as if we don't have tons of original written notes, diaries, letters, books, and laws in which "white colonizers" enshrined their whiteness with pride and boasted on how they inflicted violence on all not deemed white. I mean, less than a century ago being an "evil white colonizer" was extremely flattering.
