The day before yesterday, I was coming out of the sea, tired of playing in waves less than 3 feet high, when a woman and a little girl were waiting for me.
“Good morning, I’m B and this is M, my daughter. Sorry to bother you, but the little one dragged me all the way out here because she has a favour to ask of you.”
“I want you to teach me to surf,” said the girl, who looked about nine years old.
After a scolding from her mum, she corrected herself: “Please, I’d like you to teach me to surf.”
The woman rolled her eyes, but I laughed.
“My dear, I’m not a surf instructor. There’s a surf school right here on this beach, and further north there’s a surf academy just for girls,” I replied.
“I don’t want to go to a surf school, I want you to teach me to surf. Please.”
“Darling, next week I’m going back to work and I won’t be able to be on the beach on week days.”
“But you can on the weekends, can’t you? Please.”
“Stop pestering her. She’s already explained she can’t,” said her mom.
“She seems to know exactly what she wants,” I remarked under my breath.
“Oh, you’ve no idea how much!”
The girl reminded me of myself at her age, and I relented. “All right, tomorrow at half past four. And I’ll try to be here on the next few weekends too. I won’t be able to at the end of August.”
“I knew you’d understand. I’ve been watching a lot, and the lads don’t surf like you do.”
Yesterday I went to see her and she completely charmed me. Suddenly I began to realize why women want to have children.
But the #story is much more compelling than I’ve set out here. Be sure to read it in my #newbook of #shortstories.
I have to leave early today. I have a little broom (that’s what I call girls going through puberty) waiting for me for a #surfinglesson. You can read the whole story in my new book of #shortstories. Tomorrow I’ll try to give you a brief explanation here of how this all happened.
I give my friends the freedom to have bad taste. After all, they’ll probably find some of my choices of bad taste, too.
My friend who's here with me just told me she thinks Justin Bieber is really sexy. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to leave... to throw up.
See you tomorrow—or maybe not. I need a day off to rest from my vacation.

Yesterday I introduced my new little friend, M, to my group. She bewitched them so much that they started calling her “princess.” And she just laughed and loved it. :blobcatangry:
Boys are fickle, and girls are traitors.
As if that weren’t enough, they then insisted that I ask her parents to let her be our group’s mascot. I thought about forcing them to call me “goddess,” but for some reason that makes me feel old. 😆
