@nixCraft@mastodon.social *Every* LLM output is a "hallucination". Quite a few of them coincide with what one might expect and are convincing enough to fool most people. Depending on those outputs in almost any kind of decision making is what I call epistemic bankruptcy.

@aeva @cwebber yes, he seems way too optimistic about the situation of "adults", himself included, using this technology.
Meanwhile, my university is making LLMs available for students on its platforms with the reasoning, quote:
"The available tools are intended to be used responsibly and treated as support in the process of acquiring knowledge and developing one’s own skills."
... and I want to eat my hat. Students supposed to develop their research skill are sąbotaged by the university.
I came to a public consultation about my university's stance on "AI" use. The rector joined us and was very «surprised pikachu face» when I did my exposé about the dangers, environmental and societal costs, deskilling, etc.
Basically, the "stance" is a spineless normalisation of status quo with no real concern about ethics.
I know I'm fighting windmills, but at least I could throw "epistemic bankruptcy" out there.

Można oczywiście płacić stróżom za pilnowanie nas każdej godziny każdego dnia, można się odpiąć od sieci, a można też nie dać się zwariować i zaakceptować pewien poziom ryzyka.
A najlepiej do tego wesprzeć deweloperów ołpensorsu hajsem dopóki nie wymyślimy lepszego modelu.

@steelman ale to są fałszywe alternatywy. jak sam zauważyłeś, Red Hat et al. nie ściągają pieniędzy od użytkowników indywidualnych, a jak rozumiem to chce robić MS. Odmowa korzystania z subskrypcyjnego modelu MS nie oznacza otwarcia wszystkich portów i wyłączenia uwierzytelniania w domowych sieciach.

@gedvondur@hulvr.com @nixCraft@mastodon.social some people care about how the tools they use are made. There's a whole lot of context that you seemingly choose to ignore. One may do so, sure, but the context is still there.
Just as it matters if one buys water from e.g. Nestle. It's just water the same way as any OS is just a tool, but there's more to choosing it than whether it's right for the job.
